Job Summary

Support instructional and research laboratory operations in chemistry, environmental science, and other physical sciences under the supervision of the Physical Sciences Laboratory Manager.

Responsibilities*

  • Prepare reagents, solutions, and equipment for undergraduate chemistry and environmental science lab courses.
     
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments (e.g., spectrophotometers, balances, ovens, pH meters).
     
  • Monitor chemical inventory and ensure accurate labeling, usage tracking, and safe storage.
     
  • Follow procedures for hazardous waste disposal and maintain records per university guidelines.
     
  • Contribute to lab cleanliness, organization, and periodic equipment checks.
     
  • Assist in physical science research operations as needed, including sample prep and data collection.
     
  • Be present during scheduled lab sessions in the physical sciences dispensary to assist with supply logistics, student needs, and safety monitoring.
     
  • Uphold all lab safety regulations and support students and instructors in maintaining safe practices.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related natural science.
     
  • Knowledge of chemical safety, lab protocols, and basic instrumentation.
     
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, and team collaboration skills.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master's degree in Chemistry or Environmental Science.
     
  • Experience working in undergraduate chemistry labs or instrumentation-based research.
