Job Summary
The University of Michigan is seeking a DAY shift Custodial Senior Supervisor to manage the day-to-day custodial operations of a designated area within the Custodial Services unit of Facilities and Operations. This position has direct responsibility for supervising approximately 20 full-time regular bargained-for and temporary custodians. In addition, this position is responsible for ensuring the custodial staff follow the appropriate procedures and deliver quality service to preserve campus health and safety.

Responsibilities*
- Manage and develop a cohesive, high-performing team of custodians that act in accordance with Facilities and Operations' guiding principles of being proactive, respectful, collaborative, and solutions-based.
- Provide a work environment that brings a high level of energy, team building attitude, environmental awareness, fiscal responsibility, customer service, and safety to the team and department.
- Plan work activities and establish work schedules and staffing requirements using departmental team cleaning standards.
- Perform payroll functions including accurate record keeping, vacation scheduling, and overtime assignments.
- Perform administrative functions, including monthly supply orders, updated inventories for stock, equipment, and laundry counts.
- Monitor equipment to ensure it is clean and maintained to departmental standards.
- Train staff in compliance with current cleaning standards.
- Ensure university and department policies and procedures are being followed correctly.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations to assess additional training needs.
- Proactively address issues as they arise. Manage labor relations issues and resolve employee complaints and grievances, including the first step grievance.
- Initiate disciplinary process including recommendation for discharge.
- Maintain safety standards to assure compliance with the University, State, and Federal codes and regulations.
- Coordinate the flow of work or services between departments and assist in the resolution of inter-departmental operating issues.
- Conduct Quality Assurance inspections on buildings and resolve issues.
- Collaborate with our campus partners via email, phone, video calls, and other communication resources to ensure that we are providing the highest level of service.
- Partner with Pest Management to ensure preventive measures are being taken in buildings.
Required Qualifications*
- High school graduate or GED
- Minimum two (2) years of supervisory experience
- Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial operations and/or supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of computer skills, including the use of Gmail, Google Drive (Sheets and Docs), and Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)
- Excellent customer service skills are a must!
- Demonstrated ability to develop positive working relationships with a diverse group of people at all levels of the organization
Desired Qualifications*
- College degree
- Familiarity with task-team cleaning in a custodial operation
- Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (e.g., AiM, etc.)
- Experience with Google Drive (Sheets and Docs)
- Knowledge of University policies and procedures
- Experience working in a union environment, including knowledge of labor contract administration
Work Schedule
The work schedule for this DAY shift Senior Supervisor position is: Sunday - Thursday, 4:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Underfill Statement
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification as Custodial Associate Supervisor depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. The starting salary for Custodial Associate Supervisor is $48,000 - $52,000.
