Job Summary

Michigan Engineering's Office of the Associate Dean for Graduate and Professional Education (ADGPE) is looking for Application Review Specialists to assist with a program to review applications for Michigan Engineering Ph.D. and Master's degree programs in accordance with University and Michigan Engineering guidelines, policies, and procedures. Michigan Engineering's graduate programs are top ranked in the nation, and its researchers are internationally recognized. Our mission is to recruit and develop a talented and diverse body of students from all 50 states and over 100 countries.

Our Application Review Specialists must be able to work remotely and have a personal computer that supports such work to review applications from both domestic and international applicants.

Appointments will begin with Ph.D. application review training that will take place virtually in early to mid-November and will be followed by approximately four weeks of Ph.D. application review. Our team will then transition to Master's application review training, followed by approximately four weeks of Master's application review.

These are temporary positions with an anticipated end date of late February 2026. Candidates must be available to devote a full 20 hours each week to this position for the entire duration of the application cycle.

Responsibilities*

  • Evaluate applications based on holistic criteria provided by Michigan Engineering.
  • Provide a comprehensive written assessment of the quality of each application in a timely fashion. The assessment will include the evaluation of subjective and objective information, including a decision recommendation. 
  • Must demonstrate flexibility by keeping up-to-date with any procedural or guideline changes that might impact the review of applications.
  • Must maintain communication and interaction with the supervisor during the review process.
  • Ensure confidentiality and security of application files and all application materials at all times.
  • Work independently with a high degree of confidence in an online environment.
  • Participate in interactive, synchronous training sessions and check-in meetings.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Education, Human Relations, or Engineering
  • Familiarity with the review and evaluation of written material
  • Demonstrated ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Access to reliable internet and a secure personal computer
  • Working knowledge of Google Suite (GMain, Docs, Sheets), and ability to learn new software quickly and efficiently

Desired Qualifications*

  • Prior work experience in higher education, engineering, academic admissions, or application review 

Work Schedule

Approximately twenty hours per week, mostly asynchronous, remote work. Some mandatory training sessions and meetings will be held live via Zoom.

Background Screening

The University of Michigan conducts background checks on all job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background checks.  Background checks are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
