This position must be located in Des Moines, Iowa
The University of Michigan is conducting a research study focused on healthy relationships and sex trafficking prevention among high school students in Des Moines Public Schools. The study is called Project LIVE (see below). We are hiring student advocates and Project LIVE promoters to support our work on their school campuses.
Background
Project LIVE is a research program that aims to promote healthy relationships, reduce violence, and prevent human trafficking among high school students in Des Moines. The included schools are East, North, Roosevelt, Lincoln, Virtual, Focus, and Options. The research includes surveys given in all schools, and a workshop program in select schools. The workshop program is called the READY to Stand Curriculum? and will be given to students in elective classes. Parents/guardians and students must agree to participate in the research before they can participate.
Responsibilities*
- Promote Project LIVE at school among their peers.
- Engage with Des Moines Public School Students.
- Attend school events with Project LIVE staff to share information about the project.
- Pass out guardian consent forms to students.
- Collect guardian consent forms returned by students.
- Report recruitment numbers to Project LIVE staff.
- Complete research ethics training and other required trainings.
- Follow the rules of research ethics and the research plan.
- Participate in other tasks as designated; in-person availability is required for scheduled activities.
Required Qualifications*
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage students and families.
- Comfortable talking to new people about new ideas and inviting them to participate.
- Current student at one of the following high schools: East, North, Roosevelt, Lincoln.
- Demonstrated interest or in community- and school-based engagement.
- Knowledge and familiarity with the Des Moines Schools.
- Ability to work independently.
Desired Qualifications*
- Multilingual abilities (Spanish, Arabic)
Modes of Work
