Job Summary

The Marsal Family School of Education Information Technology team is seeking an Instructional Learning Assistant to support the audio/visual and instructional technology needs of the LEAPS (Learning, Equity, and Problem Solving for the Public Good) program, as well as other Marsal School programs, in Detroit and Ann Arbor.  This position will report to the Marsal School's Director of Information Technology and will work closely with other members of the Marsal-IT team.

 

Primary areas of support include the classrooms and meeting rooms located in U-M spaces on the Marygrove College campus in Detroit and coordination of basic IT support for the School at Marygrove. This individual will be expected to provide training, troubleshooting, and assistance as requested for classes, meetings, and special events.

 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide front line technical support for all Marsal School instructional and audio-visual equipment
  • Schedule and provide A/V support for special events
  • Assist patrons with the use of tools and equipment available for checkout
  • Assist in the hiring, training, and mentoring of student staff
  • Provide general videography services using both video equipment and web-based lecture capture tool
  • Perform basic video editing and file delivery
  • Train users on the use of available classroom technology
  • Provide setup assistance, instructions, and support for video-conferencing
  • Track and respond to requests through a ticketing system
  • Oversee regular inventory checks and maintenance of classroom and meeting room technology
  • Redirect requests when needed and collaborate with other support personnel such as Facilities, IT Support, and the Assistant Director of Instructional Technology
  • Provide updates on work and tasks in weekly team meetings
  • Follow established procedures to ensure the security of personnel, facilities, and equipment.
  • Provide input and assistance with AV design for building renovation projects
  • Additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or audio-video field or comparable professional experience
  • Strong customer service and desire to help people with technical needs
  • Familiarity with Windows and MacOS computing platforms
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud or similar design and video editing software
  • Familiarity with virtual conferencing platforms (Zoom, Google Meet, MS Teams)
  • Ability to interact with faculty, students, and staff professionally and respectfully 
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Skilled at communicating technical concepts to non-technical users
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues under pressure
  • Familiarity with video and audio equipment including cameras/recorders, tripods, and microphones
  • Experience running small event audio including wireless microphones and sound mixer
  • General knowledge of Canvas or similar Learning Management System
  • Able to effectively manage multiple, simultaneous tasks 
  • Able to work independently and manage time to respond to and complete requests in a timely manner

Desired Qualifications*

  • Familiarity with the University of Michigan IT environment and services

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Additional Information

This position requires in-person support.   This role is expected to work on the Marygrove campus in Detroit at least 3 days/week and spend the other days on the Ann Arbor campus.  The Detroit-based support is likely to grow to 4 or 5 days/week within the next year.  The typical work schedule for this position will be 8am-5pm on weekdays, with occasional deviations for special events.  Overtime pay will be available for infrequent weekend events.
