Job Summary

This job opening is for a Temporary Float RN position within the Central Staffing Resource Department (CSR).  The specific cluster is for the Interventional Radiology Department.

**BASE RATE & SHIFT DIFFERENTIALS FOR CSR STAFF NURSE TEMPS**

Wage: $55.00/hr. base rate
Evening Shift Differential is $5.00 per hour
Night Shift Differential is $ 3.00 per hour
Weekend Differential is $5.00 per hour

Responsibilities*

Provides comprehensive nursing care to pediatric and adult patients during Interventional Radiology procedures, including Vascular, Neuro and other specialties.  Prioritizes and provides appropriate patient care in an organized, efficient, professional and timely manner.  Identifies emergency situations, initiates nursing actions and sets priorities for care. Assists Radiologist(s), Fellow(s), Resident(s), Advanced Practice Providers(APP’s) and technical staff in performing diagnostic and interventional procedures. 

Provides moderate sedation/analgesia to patients undergoing Interventional Radiological procedures per UMHS policies, guidelines, protocols and competencies. This includes assessment, monitoring, administering of medications, documentation, and other interventions to ensure a safe, therapeutic experience for the patient(s). Other key responsibilities include: POC (Point of Care) testing, administering anticoagulant/ hemolytic therapies, keen assessment skills, working with minimal supervision, ability to multitask, and use professional judgement in decision making.  

Fosters a culture of patient and family centered care by creating a positive and caring experience with every interaction. Recognizes internal and external customers and continually looks for ways to improve service and therapeutic communications for all internal and external customers.

This position routinely involves:

  • Constant standing, walking, transporting of equipment, 
  • Patient lifting, positioning, pushing, twisting, and/or transferring of patients. 
  • Remaining in a stationary position and/or moving for extended periods of time
  • Wearing a lead apron (approx. 20-25 lbs) for several hours at a time
  • Inspection & monitoring of patients from at least 20 feet in low light environment
  • Providing patient care in low light/dark rooms during radiographic procedures
  • Pushing stretchers with patients
  • Management of blood product transfusions, including associated paper documentation.
  • Using computerized data entry and medical record systemsways to improve service and therapeutic communications for all internal and external customers

Required Qualifications*

Current license to practice nursing in the State of Michigan is required.

Two (2) or more years recent (within the past five (5) years) RN experience providing care to complex Adult and/ or Pediatric patients in a ICU, ED, Interventional Radiology, Cardiac Catheterization Lab, EP (Electrophysiology) Lab or other medical procedures unit environment.

Experience in sedation and/ or pain management and/or anxiety management, anticoagulant administration, POC (point of care) testing.

ACLS and PALS certification is required (or within six (6) months of date of hire) or MUST be completed prior to end of probationary period

Current AHA BLS Certification. Candidate will need to be able to provide proof of certification upon offer

**Commitment is 24 hours per 4 week scheduling block**

Modes of Work

TEMPORARY FLOAT NURSE GUIDELINES
1). All CSR employees are required to attend an annual educational Blitz to complete required
UM mandatories and compentencies (BCLS every 2 yrs, Cardiac Arrest and maintain all
other applicable certifications).
2). Temporary Float Nurses are expected to work all shifts requested unless no work is
available. It is the intention that all Temps will float to all units within the cluster speciality.
3). A Temporary Nurse should work 24 hours per 4 week schedule block. You may request four
(4), eight (8), or twelve (12) hours shifts in advance.
4.) Temporary Nurses in the CSR Clusters are NOT required to work weekends or holidays.
5). Temporary Nurses will participate in a newly designed, streamlined, onboarding/orientation
program. However, the progression of orientation will be dependent upon clinical
competency, staffing needs of the individual units, and the number of hours worked by the
Temporary RN.
