Job Summary
Michigan Medicine is seeking a Financial Manager to join the organization's Central Finance division. This position will manage the University of Michigan Medical Group (UMMG) financial portfolio including annual budget, major investments, and clinical funds flow arrangements. This includes development and ongoing management of executive analyses and financial strategy in support of the UMMG and Michigan Medicine's strategic goals.
In summary, this Financial Manager will play a critical role in coordinating and optimizing financial processes, models and analyses related to clinical productivity, professional revenue, and strategic funding. With a focus on accuracy, equity, and financial improvement, the manager will ensure effective distribution of funds, facilitate productive negotiations, and provide strategic oversight of clinical fund flow mechanisms.
Reporting to the UMMG & UMMS Associate Chief Financial Officer (ACFO), candidates for this position are expected to exhibit strong leadership skills and function as a collaborator. The Michigan Medicine Finance team is a cohesive group of individuals who value one another and achieve success by leveraging one another?s strengths, and ideal candidates will embody this approach. Candidates should also have a strong understanding of financial concepts and a thorough financial acumen. Experience in and understanding of Academic Medical Centers is desired.

Responsibilities*
As the Financial Manager a typical day will include:
- Engaging with members of the team and ensuring tasks are being completed, projects are on pace to meet deadlines, and team members' needs are being met.
- Working closely with the ACFO to ensure projects are being completed and that the team's efforts are in alignment with the goals of the broader team and institution as a whole.
- Preparing financial analysis, modeling, and planning
- Working closely with the ACFO to define short- and long-term plans for department structure, team development, and succession planning
- Presenting at various meetings and forums across the institution on the financial performance of the UMMG including Budget & Finance Committee and other finance-related topics as it relates to work being completed on the team.
- Collaborating with other functional teams across the UMMG, Central Finance, Michigan Medicine, and the University to complete cross-team work products and discover additional opportunities for synergies.
- Developing and promoting innovative approaches to decision making throughout all levels of the organization, with an ability to leverage financial data as needed and to ensure that high value solutions are identified, planned and executed.
Building collaborative relationships within Michigan Medicine Central Finance and promoting a culture of teamwork, service, and excellence.
Required Qualifications*
Financial Senior Manager required qualifications:
- Master's degree in finance, business, or similar.
- Five or more years of experience managing financial and budgetary operations.
Financial Intermediate Manager required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or similar.
- Three or more years of experience managing financial and budgetary operations.
Desired Qualifications*
- Five or more years of experience managing complex financial operations.
- Five or more years of experience directly managing a team of three or more employees.
- Experience managing financial operations in government and/or healthcare settings.
- Experience in Business Objects, PeopleSoft, Oracle, and/or Hyperion.

Portfolio of Work
The Financial Manager will report directly to Associate CFO Medical Group & Medical School and will be responsible for overseeing various aspects related to significant and materially impactful clinical fund flows. The manager's primary portfolio will include:
- Memorandum of Understanding (MOU Agreements)
- Relative Value Unit (RVU) Model
- Professional Service Agreements (PSA)
- Performance Measures/Departmental Incentives
- Clinical Fund Flows & Finance Leadership
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned
Additional Job Functions
- Develop and implement advanced financial concepts and techniques for planning and control.
- Execute specialized financial analysis to assess present and future performance.
- Function as a consultant between customers and central finance, ensuring their needs are met and they feel supported.
- Educate customers to empower them in making informed financial decisions for short-term and long-term success.
- Collaborate with UMMG leaders to enhance financial acumen and improve overall financial health.
- Manage a developing team, including employee development, mentoring, and performance management.
- Foster high performance, integrity, and financial stewardship within the team.
Background Screening
