Job Summary

A Research Lab Specialist Associate position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Xiaofeng Zhou, in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor, MI. The Zhou laboratory investigates the immunological mechanisms underlying pulmonary complications following hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT).

Responsibilities*

  • Actively contribute to the design, execution, and evaluation of research projects.
  • Perform cell culture, animal procedures (including euthanasia and necropsy), and conduct molecular and biochemical assays.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data.
  • Present research progress at laboratory meetings.
  • Train users in equipment operation and laboratory techniques; explain and demonstrate technology capabilities, limitations, and outcomes.
  • Assist in preparing research support proposals and acquiring data from external agencies.
  • Maintain laboratory operations, including routine chores, supply management, and waste disposal, in collaboration with other team members.

Required Qualifications*

  • Master's degree in Microbiology and Immunology.
  • Proficiency in experimental mice procedures, including euthanasia and necropsy, is mandatory.

Additional Information

This position is term-limited to January 31, 2027 with the possibility of renewal based on need and available funding.  At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits.  This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.

Background Screening
