Job Summary

The Michigan Center for Translational Pathology (MCTP) is seeking an energetic and highly motivated individual to join our lab management team as a laboratory assistant (Temporary). The successful candidate must be able to thrive in a fast-paced laboratory environment and provide reliable support for ongoing clinical and research operations.

The ideal candidate will have a background in biomedical sciences, engineering, or a related field and be familiar with routine laboratory and inventory management. This position works closely with the lab management team to support MCTP's daily laboratory operations. Comprehensive training will be provided for all required tasks.

Responsibilities*

  • Manage laboratory receiving and delivery of supplies and materials
  • Monitor and maintain temperature-sensitive laboratory equipment
  • Record, enter, and process shipments in Quartzy
  • Restock, organize, and maintain Supply Center units in central lab areas
  • Reorganize and update laboratory equipment inventory, including required documentation
  • Maintain and update computer inventory records
  • Catalog and maintain laboratory logbooks from central supply
  • Assist with cleanouts and organization of archival freezer storage
  • Assist with cataloging and organizing liquid nitrogen (LN?) storage of plasmids and cell lines
  • Perform mycoplasma testing and genotyping experiments 

Required Qualifications*

  • Basic knowledge of databases and software tools such as Quartzy and Microsoft Office
  • At least one year of experience in laboratory and inventory management
  • Fundamental skills in database and inventory management
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Excellent documentation and record-keeping abilities
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Effective time management and ability to meet deadlines
  • Willingness and ability to learn and implement new techniques
  • Understanding of laboratory safety procedures and ability to work with potentially hazardous materials
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and ability to work independently
  • High school diploma or associate degree required 

Desired Qualifications*

  • BS or MS in biomedical sciences, engineering, or a related field

Modes of Work

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
