The MPulse Camp Director is a temporary seasonal position that oversees daytime operations of the MPulse Summer Performing Arts Institutes at the University of Michigan, School of Music, Theatre & Dance. The MPulse Camp Director is the point of contact for all participants and will provide logistical services for MPulse students and parents, faculty, and Resident Life Staff. The Camp Director coordinates with the Assistant Camp Director on a daily basis to ensure a seamless handling of day-to-day operations.

Full Time On or Off Campus: May 18 - June 5, 2026

Full Time On-Campus: June 8 - August 1, 2026 

Compensation: $13,000

  • $13,000 paid in 8 even payments, bi-weekly from May through August
  • The Camp Director will be afforded 4 days off during the duration of the MPulse Program.

Reports to: MPulse Program Manager and Engagement & Outreach Administrative Staff.

Responsibilities*

Programmatic

  • Assist with communications to parents and students prior to the start of MPulse programs.
  • Lead and organize all parent and participant welcome meetings.
  • Collect and follow up as needed for any completed incident reports.
  • Communicate with MPulse Program Manager and parents regarding any behavioral issues involving participants
  • Monitor crisis management plan, including emergency procedures.
  • Monitor and report about student safety, and safety procedures related to the complete supervision of participants and staff.
  • Field questions and concerns from faculty and staff regarding MPulse participants and program logistics.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Camp Director, prepare and conduct pre-camp and in-service training of the counseling team.
  • Oversee shuttle service day of, to and from campus.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Personnel Management

  • Supervise daily meetings with camp staff.
  • Recommend to MPulse Program Manager or E&O Director any temporary staff disciplinary procedures in conjunction with the Assistant Camp Director.
  • Organize daily counselor schedules.
  • Approve or deny temporary staff time off requests.
  • Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with parents, participants, counselors, MPulse faculty and staff, and U-M Housing staff.
  • Provide coverage in the event of a counselor's inability to perform their duties.

Required Qualifications*

  • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 2 years of prior camp, campus life experience or leadership experience.
  • Experience working effectively with different communities and cultures; experience working directly with faculty, staff and students.
  • Staff supervision experience.

Additional Information

Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Decision Making Process
