Job Summary

The Section of Plastic Surgery is seeking a qualified MA to join the Plastic Surgery service to provide outpatient clinic services. In this position, the MA will function as part of the team, managing patient flow in a fast paced, outpatient setting, as well as supporting the plastic surgeons in providing care and treatment in a clinic setting.

Responsibilities*

  • Clean wound (s) before treatment is administered.
  • Perform standard medical laboratory tests, including urinalysis.
  • Schedule and refer patients to appointments.
  • Respond to general patient inquiries regarding treatment and clinic policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate patient care with outside health agencies.
  • Obtain health status and medical history.
  • Maintain patient files and records.
  • Complete insurance forms and initiate other patient correspondence.
  • Arrange for the repair of clinic equipment
  • Maintain stock levels and order clinic supplies.
  • Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications*

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Moderate standing/walking, as well as, lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients.
Associate Level:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1-3 years of experience
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology

Assistant Level:

  • 0-1 years of experience
  • Some office experience.

Desired Qualifications*

Certification as a Medical Assistant is desired. Previous experience with EPIC software in a healthcare setting is desired. Demonstrated proficiency in MS Outlook, Lync, Microsoft Word/Excel. Knowledge of Michigan Medicine policies and procedures.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
