Responsibilities*

Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, assist in the care of the perinatal mother and newborn.
Assist in the maintenance of a safe environment that supports patient needs.
Assist the obstetrical team during the delivery process.
Communicate with patients, families and staff in a welcoming, caring and professional manner.

Nights: 1900-0730, Days: 0700-1930.  Three (12-hr shifts) required to sign up, including a minimum of one (1) weekend shift.

Required Qualifications*

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Medical Assistant program
  • 1 year minimum patient care position
  • Demonstrated flexibility in an extremely fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills.

Desired Qualifications*

  • 12-months current experience in a nursing home or other health care environment.
  • Current experience in the care of the inpatient perinatal mother and/or newborn.
  • Basic computer skills.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
