Job Summary

  • Provides primary weekend coverage as well as weekdays on the Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Unit.
  • Works with patients with a variety of psychiatric disorders and will perform comprehensive patient evaluations based on specific clinical pathways.
  • Provides group and 1:1 treatment intervention for patients based on assessed level of functioning in work, self-care and leisure.
  • Communicates patient's symptoms and progress to team members either through direct or written communication.
  • Provides patient, family and team members with discharge recommendations to optimize successful level of function post discharge.
  • Provides indicated treatments based on clinical rationale.
  • Processes patient orders and documents patient sessions using electronic charting system.

Responsibilities*

Basic Function and Responsibility

  • Provides diagnostic evaluations and comprehensive, individualized treatment for patients with serious psychiatric illnesses on the Adult inpatient unit.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and carry out specific assessments and treatment interventions in an individual and group setting.
  • Provide education and in-service training regarding Activity Therapy to patient, families, staff and others.
  • Consult with other members of the multidisciplinary team to appropriately address identified patient needs during Activity Therapy sessions.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies.
  • Plan and implement additional Activity Therapy sessions, i.e., special events, patient/family workshops.
  • Applicant must have excellent skills at communication and teamwork.

Related Duties

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervision Received

  • General supervision is received from the Activity Therapy Supervisor.

Supervision Exercised

  • Functional supervision is exercised over Activity Therapy students and volunteers.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of an internship in therapeutic recreation.
  • Certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Minimum of five years' experience working in an adult inpatient psychiatric setting.
  • Experience in facilitation of individual and group psychotherapy/psychoeducational sessions.
  • Experience in Motivational Interviewing Techniques..
  • Experience in facilitation of Cognitive and Dialectical Behavior Therapy Interventions.

Background Screening
