Postdoctoral Fellowship in Neuroimmunology
We are seeking a motivated and talented candidate with a strong background in neuroimmunology or neuroscience for a postdoctoral fellowship in the allergy and immunology laboratory of Charles Schuler at the University of Michigan within the Mary H. Weiser Food Allergy Center. Our laboratory focuses on understanding the effector phase of anaphylaxis using a combination of in vitro and in vivo modeling, human anaphylaxis tissue sampling, and multi-omics. All projects in the laboratory have strong translational components including involvement in basic experimental studies in humans, which are ongoing. Successful candidates will become part of a productive, supportive, and collaborative team of researchers conducting integrated translational and clinical research. We have a strong commitment to mentorship and a growing track record of success. The position will be funded from NIH research and training grants and donor/institutional support at the University of Michigan.
The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in molecular and cellular biology and neuroimmunology/neuroscience-related techniques, a record of productivity, excellent oral and written communication skills, and will be capable of leading research projects that unravel how food anaphylaxis propagates systemically. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively in the laboratory is paramount. The ideal candidate will pursue innovative and exciting projects to foster an independent research career. Responsibilities*
- Conduct a laboratory project of one's own: Develop and manage experiments, including determining suitable methods. Interpret and perform complex data analysis and assess experimental outcomes. Develop and maintain a high level of expertise through current scientific literature.
- Enhance the laborator's repertoire of techniques: Develop or import innovative techniques and experimental systems to meet research program goals, particularly as related to our neuroimmunology work.
- Scientific writing and project development: Prepare manuscripts for publication and research findings for presentation at scientific meetings and conferences. Write grant applications.
- Collaborative Interactions: Develop and foster relationships with partners in academia and industry. Train and mentor other members of the laboratory.
Required Qualifications*
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in relevant field with laboratory experience in neuroimmunology, neuroscience, and/or immunology-related techniques.
Experience in the use of genetically engineered cell lines and mouse models.
Have a positive, independent, and collaborative attitude suitable for a research laboratory.
Strong scientific curiosity and record of rigorous publications.
Have strong oral and written communication skills.
Desired Qualifications*
In vivo research experience with rodents and human tissues.
Experience with next generation sequencing analyses is preferred.
