Job Summary
The employee communications intern will join the Department of Communication to help promote Michigan Medicine's clinical care, research and education enterprises to our 35,000+ employees. The applicant will work with employee communications team members to promote Michigan Medicine through social media, photography, storytelling, videos, digital signage, departmental newsletters and other communication channels.
Successful candidates will have excellent writing and verbal communication skills and demonstrate adaptability, a willingness to learn, enthusiasm and creativity.

Responsibilities*
Develop, research and write stories and announcements for distribution directly to internal audiences and employee social media pages.
Work closely with the Department of Communication Creative Services team to plan, edit and create videos, photo galleries or podcasts.
Develop content and monitor engagement for social media platforms, and post stories about employee recognition, contests, institutional updates and more.
Create talking points and related supporting materials such as Q&As and presentations as needed to support strategic messaging, special events, crisis communications and more.
Work closely with the employee communications team to support various departments with needs such as strategic communication plans, graphics, recognition and more.
Organize and participate in any on-site or virtual promotional events to support institutional priorities and further employee engagement.
Travel around the health system to take photos and meet with team members to help recognize them on various platforms.
Attend special events to take photos and interview attendees for potential feature stories and social media posts.
Required Qualifications*
- Open to currently enrolled college students.
- Strong writing and verbal communication skills are required, with the ability to adapt materials, depending upon audience.
- Must be versatile working with various stakeholders in a complex organization and working under deadlines.
- Video editing, photography and graphic design experience preferred but not required.
Modes of Work
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
Additional Information
Work will be primarily remote with on-site attendance as needed, working with members of the Department of Communication through staff meetings, emails, Zoom and Teams calls, and other forms of communication.
Job timeframe is tentatively mid-May to mid-August 2026, but flexible based on availability of candidate.
40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
Supervision
This job reports to a member of the employee communications team.
Pay Rate
$15 per hour
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
