Job Summary
The Biointerfaces Institute (BI) within the University of Michigan (U-M) is seeking an highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as a Communications Coordinator.
The Biointerfaces Institute was established in 2012 to create a new blueprint for biomedical research that encourages out-of-the-box thinking, drives innovation, accelerates the path from basic research to real-world health outcomes, while serving as an ideal training site for the next generation of scientists and thought leaders. BI is currently home to 39 research groups comprised of more than 550 students and researchers from the School of Dentistry, the College of Engineering, the School of Medicine, and the College of Pharmacy, collocated in over 56,000 square feet of dedicated state-of-the-art facilities at the North Campus Research Complex.
The Communications Coordinator will report to the BI Strategic Operations Manager on a broad portfolio of communication projects across print, web, email, and social media to engage and inform large scale research efforts and external partnerships. The selected candidate will promote and communicate the efforts of BI with both established and novel communication tools to increase BI's visibility at the University, as well as, with key stakeholders within the community, philanthropy, government, and research communities.

Responsibilities*
- Annual Communication Plan Implementation (15%): Assist with development and execution of communication plan, including tailored public relations and marketing activities for internal and external stakeholders.
- Content Creation & Promotion (25%): Plan, research, and write original content to promote BI activities. Assist with newsletters, print, multi-media, video productions, presentations, etc.
- Marketing Content Delivery & Media Management (15%): Manage delivery of content via email, social media, website, and external media ensuring quality, accuracy, appropriateness, and brand alignment.
- Website & Platform Management (10%): Manage and update the BI website and web platform, maintaining look, continuity, consistency, and user experience.
- Inventory Management (10%): Maintain inventory of templates, logos, collateral, promotional materials, and curate digital images for BI's marketing and promotional needs.
- Event Coordination & Outreach (25%): Assist with events coordination and outreach activities, supporting collaborations and broadening participation from underrepresented groups.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree in business, communications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- At least 1 year of experience coordinating creative teams to help them achieve their goals
- At least 1 year of experience using software tools to organize teams or manage data
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Demonstrated creativity, initiative, accountability, discipline, and integrity
- Proactive in asking questions and offering support
- Able to translate instructions and information into accurate updates
- Enthusiasm for working in a highly collaborative and creative team environment, with teams of varying sizes and types of work
Desired Qualifications*
- Experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google Suite.
- Familiarity with social media platforms.
- Familiarity with communications around research and/or educational environments.
Modes of Work
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes. This position is 40 hours per week, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, onsite.
