Job Summary
The Engineering Learning Center at the University of Michigan-Dearborn offers assistance to students in CECS courses and other academic success programs. The ELC is accepting applications for three positions as CECS Peer Mentor/Tutor for Fall 2026-Winter 2027. The Peer Mentor will be working primarily with incoming CECS students to support the transition from High School to CECS, specifically assisting with ENGR 095 "CECS First Year Seminars", as well as other assignments. Anticipated start date: August 24, 2026
Responsibilities*
Peer Mentors will assist the instructor for ENGR 095 and CECS Engineering Learning Center leadership to provide enrichment programming including engineering-based, math-related projects for incoming CECS students. Peer Mentors will have posted drop-in hours in the ELC for CECS students to visit and ask questions.
Required Qualifications*
Must be current UM-Dearborn CECS Undergraduate students.
Must have completed MATH 115 or above and have completed at least one year at UM-Dearborn.
Must have skills in coaching/tutoring others in CECS concepts, ability to engage incoming engineering students and to plan group activities.
Must have faculty/advisor reference.
Must be available to attend and assist in ENGR 095 class each week in Fall 2026. Class is scheduled on Thursdays 12:00pm to 12:50pm.
Desired Qualifications*
Preference will be given to students who have participated in one or more of the following: completed Math 090 at UM-Dearborn, STEMstart, CECS student organization, campus volunteer activities, student-centered campus job such as orientation leader, tutor, SI leader.
Commitment: approximately 10 hours per week
