Job Summary

Michigan Medicine known for its commitment to providing high quality, family-centered patient care, seeks an experienced certified ultrasound sonographer for our Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment Center to perform obstetric ultrasound examinations with supervision of Maternal Fetal Medicine physicians in a high-risk obstetric ultrasound unit. We provide a full range of consultative and diagnostic services, including ultrasounds, antenatal testing, genetic counseling, MFM consults, prenatal diagnosis, genetic amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling, and complex procedures. 

Responsibilities*

Essential:
?    Performs all ultrasound procedures according to department procedures and established protocols. Performs fetal exams including but not limited to 1st trimester ultrasound exam, nuchal translucency measurement, 2nd trimester detailed anatomy survey, 3rd trimester ultrasound exam, Fetal Doppler(s), and biophysical profile.
?    Adheres to the AIUM guidelines for obstetrical imaging.
?    Ensures the appropriate exam is performed based on physician?s orders and patient clinical history.
?    Provides accurate and consistent education and explanation of exam.
?    Assist physicians in performing various invasive outpatient procedures.
?    Works in accordance with the hospital and department policies and procedures.
?    Demonstrates critical thinking and ability to problem solve. 
?    Participates in continuing education.
?    Assist with training and development of ultrasound skills for fellows, residents, and students. 
?    Provides a summary of findings to the physician to aid in patient diagnosis and management.
?    Maintains necessary patient records.
?    Communicates in a positive manner with staff, providers, patients, and visitors. 
 

Required Qualifications*

  •  Registered with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) within 6 months of hire.
  • Certification of OB/GYN is required within 12 months of hire. 
     

Desired Qualifications*

?    Experience in Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Obstetrics, fetal anomalies, evaluation of the placenta and cervix, 3D and 4D sonography highly desired.  
?    Certification in Fetal Echocardiography is desired but not required. 
 

Modes of Work

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
