Job Summary
The Department of Environment, Health & Safety at the University of Michigan is seeking a creative, detail-oriented temporary assistant to strengthen our safety training program through high-quality graphic design, photography, and instructional design support. You'll collaborate with EHS subject matter experts to translate technical content into clear, engaging, accessible learning experiences and visual communications for campus audiences. The ideal candidate will balance independent and collaborative efforts to enhance our EHS Safety Training programs using innovative technologies.

Responsibilities*
- Design training materials and illustrations that simplify complex safety concepts (print, PDF, web, presentations, and digital assets).
- Create, manage, and ensure digital assets align with brand and accessibility standards across all platforms.
- Schedule and photograph staff in a variety of settings including studio, live events, working on campus.
- Capture and edit photos and short-form video to support training, communications, and EHS programs.
- Assist with multimedia production (recorded lectures, voiceover, instructional videos, events, wayfinding, etc.), including photo/video capture, editing and file preparation for distribution.
- Lead workshops for staff on graphic design principles and photography.
- Design and develop a range of training materials, including job aids and program evaluation surveys.
- Assist with building eLearning content
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to define learning goals, develop relevant content, track meetings and action items.
- Review and test eLearning modules for functionality.
- Effectively use our course authoring tool, dominKnow, for elearning design, and our learning management system, My LINC, to schedule sessions and maintain accurate training records through efficient data entry.
- Participate in and support EHS programming across various formats.
- Assist with end-to-end event logistics; including staging equipment, coordinating deliveries and room setups, supporting day-of operations, and ensuring timely breakdown and return.
- Provide outstanding customer support for training inquiries and audio/visual technology.
- Conduct administrative tasks related to training and event coordination.
- Handle sensitive information with discretion and make independent, informed decisions.
- Cultivate positive and collaborative relationships within the organization.
- Support a diverse and inclusive workplace culture and participate in special projects as assigned.
Desired Qualifications*
- Degree or experience in Graphic Design, Communications, Photography, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field. High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Photography experience and ability to select, edit, and deliver polished images using professional digital workflows.
- Experience in multimedia content production and adherence to accessibility standards.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills including verbal, written, spelling, grammar, punctuation and style.
- Experience using software like Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Zoom.
- Capability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to consult with business partners and build positive relationships.
- Aptitude to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, producing high-quality work.
- Quick adaptation to using new tools and software for learning management, email marketing, and data visualization.
- Strong project management skills to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to quickly interpret complex concepts and trends to enhance performance.

Modes of Work

Additional Information
This is a 40 hour/week onsite temporary position working M-F, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm in our Ann Arbor, MI office. The pay is set at $21/hour. We are currently unable to consider candidates who are not authorized to work in the United States. Additionally, we are not offering visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must have appropriate work authorization at the time of application.
