Job Summary
Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Michigan is searching for a Graphic Designer, who will be an integral part of the central staff team. Reporting to the Communications and Marketing Manager, the selected candidate will be responsible for producing designs for our various print, web, email, and social channels, while ensuring that deliverables meet high levels of design professionalism, grammatical correctness, and University of Michigan brand standards.
Our team produces stories, videos, and photography, as well as event collateral, direct mail appeals, and campaign marketing materials. Our work celebrates the faculty, students, alumni, and staff who are passionately working to help solve the world's most complex problems.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree in fine arts, graphic design, communication design, media design, or related fields, with two years of experience or suitable portfolio, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- High level of general computer and software proficiency, with experience in design and layout software, especially Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator)
- Excellent print and digital design skills as demonstrated by a portfolio of work that is original, creative, and innovative
- Familiarity with social media such as LinkedIn, Instagram, X, etc.
- Excellent creative-thinking skills; adaptability to new technology or communications avenues
- Ability to set and manage priorities (for self and for projects), handle multiple assignments and deadlines from a variety of individuals, and operate in a flexible, professional manner
- Careful attention to detail
Ability to create multiple design options, and work collaboratively with others on a final product
Strong communication skills through a variety of mediums, including strong copy-editing skills
Desired Qualifications*
- Experience working with a strong, prominent brand
- Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of constituents and possess outstanding interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of higher education, science, and technology
- Ability to create illustrations
- Familiarity with Wordpress or similar web CMS
