Job Summary

The University of Michigan-Flint School of Nursing is seeking a highly motivated and experienced PhD-prepared nurse to join our team in a new position supporting excellence in research and scholarship among faculty and students.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in research and scholarship and demonstrated proficiency as a writing mentor and grant writer. This role is pivotal in promoting student and faculty success through tailored support and consultation.

This is a 12-month administrative position at 80% effort (32 hours per week) with an annual salary range $68,000 to $88,000. This position will report directly to the Dean of the School of Nursing.

Responsibilities

Student Success

  • Support faculty by accepting referrals for nursing students seeking to develop their academic writing skills
  • Offer workshops and/or seminars for students on effective writing techniques and strategies
  • Provide expert consultation related to the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project experience, using listening strategies with faculty and students to assess current status and guide ongoing strategies

Faculty Success: Development of Program of Scholarship

  • Work collaboratively with nursing faculty to develop and enhance their individual programs of scholarship
  • Offer consultation and mentorship on research methodologies, grant writing, manuscript preparation, and publication strategies
  • Facilitate faculty development workshops on topics related to research, scholarship, and writing

SON Liaison for Office of Research Initiatives

  • Participate on the Research Council in the UM-Flint Office of Research
  • Collaborate on development of funding proposals, implementation, and outcome reporting
  • Support and advance interdisciplinary programs of research and scholarship
  • Support faculty participation in Office of Research Initiatives

Additional Responsibilities

  • Deliver guest lectures in areas of expertise
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of student and faculty support services
  • Serve as a role model through the ongoing continuation of a personal program of scholarship and research

Required Qualifications*

  • PhD in Nursing or a related field from an accredited institution
  • Registration to practice nursing in Michigan with an unrestricted license or eligible to apply
  • Demonstrated leadership in research and scholarship at the university level and across interdisciplinary collaborations
  • Strong track record of success in research, writing, and grant consultation
  • Previous experience mentoring and/or teaching students and faculty in academic settings
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of students, faculty, and staff
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education, specifically in nursing education
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practice and clinical scholarship in nursing
  • Familiarity with a variety of research methodologies and analytical techniques

Modes of Work

Hybrid

The work requirements allow both onsite and offsite work and an employee has an expected recurring onsite presence. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite more frequently if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements.
