Job Summary
The Hsu Laboratory in the Department of Internal Medicine/Division of Hematology and Oncology is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual with strong scientific intuition, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and a learner mentality to fill our open Research Technician position. The candidate will contribute to research focused on lung stem cell biology, lung cancer, and metabolism through maintenance of cell cultures, data collection, analysis and record keeping. The position offers the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative and friendly research environment, gain experience with state-of-the-art methods and contribute to projects important for human health. Previous graduates of this position have gone onto MD and/or PhD programs and have been co-authors on publications.
Responsibilities*
The main responsibilities include primary tissue dissociation, three-dimensional cell culture of lung cells, confocal microscopy, immunohistochemistry, MACS/FACS, FISH, DNA/RNA isolation, and RT-qPCR analysis. The candidate will also maintain research reagents and maintain detailed records of laboratory procedures. The candidate will have the opportunity to assist in the preparation of research papers and meeting presentations.
Required Qualifications*
- High school diploma or associates degree and 1 year of laboratory experience (can include undergraduate part-time laboratory work) in cell culture and standard molecular biology techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to perform multi-task and develop solutions to basic technical problems.
- Strong attention to detail to tightly follow laboratory procedures and maintain accurate records.
- Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Minimum 1-year commitment and ability to occasionally perform weekend or evening work.
Desired Qualifications*
- A bachelor's degree in the life sciences.
- Experience in three-dimensional culture.
- Working knowledge of lung biology.
- An ability to commit to 2 years in the position.
- Record of contribution to publications.
- 2 years of experience preferred

Modes of Work

Work Schedule
Occasional weekend or evening work will be required given primary tissue isolation.
