Job Summary

The Spence and Hsu laboratories (http://www.jasonspencelab.com/) are part of the Departments of Internal Medicine, the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology and the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan Medical School. Our research seeks to understand cell lineage decisions, cellular heterogeneity, progenitor/stem cell regulation, and how normal homeostasis goes awry during a diverse range of diseases. We are interested in receiving applications from individuals with training in computational biology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, statistics, mathematics, or a related field.

Responsibilities*

Primary job responsibilities will include data wrangling, curation, management, and analysis. Typical projects include working alongside wet-bench scientists (both with and without computational experience) to carry out analysis based on new experimental data. Developing independent research projects is also encouraged. Former lab members have received on-the-job training in single cell analysis, and have gone on to jobs in industry, and joined top PhD programs. Opportunities to present work at scientific meetings and author manuscripts.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor of Science
  • The ideal candidate will have significant experience working in R and/or Python and a strong knowledge of statistics. The candidate will have excellent organizational skills. Qualified applicants will be highly self-motivated and will be able to work as part of a collaborative team in a dynamic environment. Strong interpersonal communication skills are essential. 

Desired Qualifications*

  •  Master of Science degree in one of the following fields: computational biology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, statistics, mathematics, or a related field
  •  The ideal candidate will have some experience analyzing single cell data.

Background Screening
