Job Summary
This position will provide nursing support to patients in neurology receiving infusions, or any treatments requiring specialized supportive care with geriatric neurological disorders, multiple sclerosis, and more. Care to include patients at East Ann Arbor, Chelsea Health Center, Taubman Center and any ambulatory location within Michigan Medicine where neurology services are provided. This position may include neurology clinic nursing responsibilities including triage and patient education.
Responsibilities*
- Provide coordinated clinical care to adults in the Department of Neurosurgery. Provide direct patient care including but not limited to wound management, pre-operative and postoperative care and evaluation, education and other common clinic procedures and tests in a fast paced surgical environment.
- Participate in nursing care, including but not limited to testing, medication management, collaborative planning of care, support of self-management by patients/families, management of emergency situations, etc.
- Provide patient and family education e.g., medication management, pre-procedure and post-procedure care, etc.
- Nurse will triage, in-basket management, authorizations, patient education and clinic support in a timely fashion aligned with institutional policies
- Provide nursing care in collaboration with Physicians, other disciplines, and department colleagues for patients in clinic and via telephone to support efficient and effective management of patients, in a professional manner.
- Facilitate pre-operative patient education class including but not limited to educating patients on preoperative hygiene, surgical process and expectations of surgery, and complete pre-operative consenting of patients.
- The candidate selected will be involved in developing and implementing standards of care and protocols, and complete other duties as assigned, to improve the patient experience, patient outcomes, and quality of patient care provided.
- Candidate must be able to perform duties independently, be highly motivated and flexible in order to address the needs of patients and their families.
- Candidate should be familiar with internal and external resources for clinical assessment, decision making, care management and participate in departmental quality improvement measures as well as LEAN processes and programs.
Required Qualifications*
- Current license to practice Nursing in the State of Michigan
- Bachelors degree in Nursing OR Associates degree/diploma in Nursing along with a Masters degree in Nursing
- Minimum of three (3) years of recent RN experience (within last 5 years) adult surgical patients with preference selection to those working with neurosurgical population

- Hourly range for RSAM Competent, Registered Nurses $43.10-$67.03/ hour
- Evening Shift Differential-$3.00 / hour

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:
This UMPNC RN posting is posted under the Role-Specific Advancement Model (RSAM) as:
CCC- COMPETENT.
Actual RSAM LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
RSAM levels range from CCC-COMPETENT to CCC-EXPERT TO CCC-MASTERY.

Work Schedule
- Hours: 8-hour shift, 40 hours per week
- Days/ Shift: Day shift Monday through Friday; variable days with potential to work Saturdays; variable hours depending on clinic needs
- Location: Taubman Center Neurosurgery however potential to support patient care across all ambulatory care neurosurgery locations
Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
