Job Summary

The Central Staffing Resource Pediatric Critical Care Cluster covers the following units: 
8W: Brandon Neonatal ICU
10W: Pediatric Cardio-Thoracic Unit (PCTU) 
10E: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

The Central Staffing Resource Pediatric Acute Care Cluster covers the following units: 
11W: Pediatric General Care Unit
12E: Pediatric General Care Unit 
12W: Pediatric General Care Unit 
7E: Pediatric Cancer Unit
 

Responsibilities*

Duties:

  • Develop, coordinate, execute, evaluate, and update nursing and tech orientation to the Central Staffing Resource Department.
  • Develop, educate, and evaluate unit preceptors. Coordination of multidisciplinary, interdepartmental orientation experiences.
  • Support onboarding of Specialty Temp and Travel staff.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Directors, House Managers, and Supervisors, monitor and evaluate the orientees performance in the clinical area during the first six (6) months of employment.
  • Provide regular communication to the manager and orientee regarding the orientees performance/progress.
  • Provide remedial orientation/education as needed.
  • Identify staffs on-going educational requirements and facilitate continuing education as appropriate
  • Conduct individualized and group learning programs for nursing and tech staff based on needs assessments and monitoring of the units clinical patient care standards and outcomes.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of staff developmental plans with respect to education.
  • Facilitate the completion of unit based mandatories and institutional regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with continuous quality improvement projects.
  • Participate in hospital-wide committees
  • Maintain accurate documentation in hospital records and other databases.
  • Direct patient care

Note: Up to 50% of time will be dedicated to staffing in Peds Critical Care or Peds Acute Care.
 

Required Qualifications*

  • Current MI RN License
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five (5) years RN experience in Pediatric Critical Care and Pediatric Acute Care-any combination is acceptable.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)Certification, can be obtained within 6 months of appointment
  • Active committee involvement on nursing units and with institutional committees. Must show ability to successfully work with others in assessing, designing and implementing innovative educational programs.
  • Leadership experience with demonstrated knowledge of adult learning concepts and the nursing developmental model.
  • Teaching experience with in a variety of settings (formal, informal, groups, 1:1 etc).

Desired Qualifications*

  • BSN or MSN preferred
  • Prior float pool/float experience
  • Recent experience coordinating staff education
  • Certification as a Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN)
  • Current PALS Verification/Instructor
  • Consultative and teaching skills
  • Experience working with electronic medical record
  • Computer competency including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of University of Michigan Health policy and procedures

Night Shift Weekend Differential- $6.90 / hour
Charge Nurse Differential- $1.00 / hour

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:
This UMPNC RN posting is posted under the Role-Specific Advancement Model (RSAM) as: ENC- COMPETENT.

Actual RSAM LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.

RSAM levels range from ENC-COMPETENT to ENC-EXPERT TO ENC-MASTERY

Modes of Work

Work Schedule

Hours/Week: 40 hours
Shift: Day/Evening/Night shift, flexibility required. The evening and night shifts is required, up to 50% of scheduled hours.

**Please note: The ENC for PCC/PAC will be working in combination with the ENC for CSR ACC/ATC/AGC and will be expected to "cross cover" each other for scheduled PTO and other days determined by the unit manager.
