Job Summary

The Parker lab is looking for a Research Laboratory Technician Senior. The individual will help organize and lead the research projects in the laboratory involving molecular biology, genomics, genetics, and metabolic assays and should serve as an expert in one of these specialized areas. The individual will also contribute to other research projects within the laboratory. The candidate should be able to work both independently and in a team environment. The candidate will be expected to perform basic laboratory maintenance/upkeep as well as maintaining compliance with University of Michigan safety and lab regulations. They will assist in development of research goals with responsibility for a substantial portion of project work and be expected to provide significant input into the development of procedures and research design. Projects in the lab are focused on human molecular biology and genetic techniques including cell culture, PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, cloning, DNA and RNA isolation, and library preparation for high-throughput sequencing.

Responsibilities*

?    Perform research independently or supervised, providing data for manuscripts and grants.
?    Analyze complex data using statistical approaches to identify significant differences.
?    Strong written and verbal communication skills, and sharp attention to detail. Participate in assembling manuscripts
?    Basic proficiency in tissue culture and molecular biology. Perform lab procedures such as cell culture, plasmid preps, molecular cloning, gel electrophoresis, ICC, and IHC.
?    DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, RT-PCR, qtPCR, and DNA sequencing
?    Stocking and organizing lab, Maintain lab equipment
?    Experience with confocal fluorescence microscopy
?    Training of new lab members and functional supervision for undergraduate students
?    Ability to think critically and troubleshoot effectively.
?    Willingness and ability to follow instructions, and work as part of a team.

Required Qualifications*

B.S. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field.

Background Screening
