Job Summary:
Information and Technology Services (ITS) is seeking an Academic Technology Systems Analyst with proven ability to apply instructional design knowledge and academic technology experience to support advanced pedagogies to join the ITS Teaching & Learning Department.
This role provides educational technology expertise and instructional support to faculty and staff across the institution. Serving as a primary support contact and the rollout lead for Cidi Labs DesignPlus, you will help users integrate Canvas LMS and other portfolio tools into their teaching workflows. This position reports to the Executive Director of Teaching & Learning.

The ITS Teaching & Learning team provides a leading edge academic technology environment to the University of Michigan community. The team's many activities include developing and implementing systems for learning management and collaboration, developing applications that can be integrated with learning management systems and other technology, and collaborating on education technology efforts with other units on campus and elsewhere. We also regularly engage with U-M faculty and students to provide training and support and gather feedback that influences the services and support we provide. Modes of Work
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. You will be required to travel to various locations on and off campus (e.g. conferences). You may also be required to occasionally work during non-business hours and on weekends. As a hybrid employee, you should be comfortable engaging with colleagues, vendors, and customers via video conferencing, chat and email as well as in person.
Responsibilities:
Instructional Support & Implementation (40%)
- Provide training and support for instructors and staff in the use of instructional technologies, including Canvas LMS and Cidi Labs DesignPlus.
- Lead the campus-wide implementation of DesignPlus, developing scalable instructional curricula (synchronous and asynchronous) to transform complex technical concepts into accessible, performance-driven e-learning solutions.
- Apply and support emerging technologies, including U-M's AI services, within everyday activities to enhance instructional workflows and innovation.
- Work with instructors and staff to identify appropriate technology tools and strategies to support effective teaching and learning.
- Stay current with instructional technology trends by attending conferences, conducting research, and providing recommendations for implementing new tools.
Project Coordination & Change Management (40%)
- Direct strategic communications and change management efforts to ensure the successful implementation of DesignPlus across various departments.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the organization and contribute to team projects using analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Organize and schedule team meetings, prepare agendas, document meeting minutes, and track action items.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning through cross-functional collaboration, mentorship, and coaching.
- Manage end-to-end technical documentation and content strategy for DesignPlus, ensuring clarity and consistency across help guides and websites.
Customer Support (20%)
- Provide support for learning management applications, ensuring daily operations meet user needs accurately and on schedule.
- Collaborate with team members, service support groups, and vendors to resolve incidents and requests.
- Advise users on the proper handling of sensitive data and promote IT security policies to support data privacy and security.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education, instructional design, educational technology, or a related field and three (3) years of experience (or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience).
- Deep understanding of learning theories, instructional design methods, and learner-centered principles.
- Demonstrated experience, vision, and passion for creating learning experiences that place a high value on engagement and inclusiveness.
- Demonstrated effective creative problem-solving and flexibility when collaborating with customers and external vendors to support enhancements.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and independent problem-solving skills.
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience with Canvas LMS and familiarity with Design Plus (Cidi Labs) or similar design toolsets.
- First-hand experience in specialized areas such as personalized learning, inclusive design, blended learning, or UX design.
- Experience writing and presenting training proposals or research for academic/practitioner conferences.
- Understanding of HTML/CSS as it relates to LMS environments.
- Advanced degree in education, instructional design, or educational technology.
