Responsibilities*

8D Pulmonary Medicine Moderate Care Care Unit:

8D is a 20 private bed unit that provides 24-hour nursing care to adult patients.  8D has 20 beds aimed to provide moderate care and assist with general/telemetry overflow as needed.

Our primary service is Pulmonary Medicine.  We are the direct admission unit for those patients that are seen in our home vent clinic. 8D can also accommodate other medicine services as accommodations on the unit.  Our unit nurses demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to meets the needs of all patients with a variety of disease states.  Caring for moderate care patients on 8D does not include the ECMO, CRRT or TAVR procedures.

8D scheduling is based on 12 hour shifts.  If you enjoy a challenge with a variety of acuity levels and patient populations, 8D is your next move on your career path.



 

Required Qualifications*

Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Michigan as a RN. 

Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Demonstrated expert nursing knowledge in the care of inpatient Pulmonary/Medical patient population with 3 or more years of inpatient Pulmonary/Medicine and two or more years telemetry experience is necessary (within the last 5 years).

Candidate must be able to provide direct patient care to demonstrate the clinical nursing role.

Recent (within 2 years) unit and/or central committee involvement with the evidence of accepting increasing responsibilities which include teaching experience, in-service speaker, nursing competency work, etc., as evidenced by current employment and/or resume.

  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate change, direct nursing practice, delegate, and evaluate outcomes, as evidenced by previous/current employment experience and demonstrated in annual evaluations.
  • Demonstrated evidence of accepting increasing responsibilities which include experience in the Charge Nurse Role and preceptor experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current documentation and practice standards and evidence of their application into daily practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively share knowledge with others and evaluate learning progress of staff, as evidenced by previous/current employment experience and demonstrated in annual evaluations.
  • Ability to utilize word processing and database programs such as Microsoft Word/Excel and PowerPoint to create new documents, enter data, generate graphs and produce presentations.
  • Demonstrated development of staff educational materials, including CEU approved programs.
  • Knowledge and experience with the concepts of continuous quality improvement.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of UMMC policies, procedures, and practices is required.
  • Professional certifications(s).

Hourly range for ENC Registered Nurses $43.10-$68.33/ hour
 Evening Shift Differential-$3.00 / hour
 Night Shift Differential- $4.00 / hour

 Day Shift Weekend Differential- $2.90 / hour
 Evening Shift Weekend Differential- $5.90 / hour
 Night Shift Weekend Differential- $6.90 / hour
 Charge Nurse Differential- $1.00 / hour

ENC- COMPETENT NE
Actual RSAM LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
RSAM levels range from ENC-COMPETENT NE to ENC-EXPERT NE TO ENC-MASTERY NE

Modes of Work

Work Schedule

Hours/Week: 36 hours (0.9)

Shift/Hours: Night shift, must be able to assist present ENC with additional night shift education and support. 

*Must be flexible to accommodate needs of the unit.

Location: UH 8D

**This position will be 12 hrs (0.3) ENC and 24 hrs (0.6) staffing

All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
