Job Summary

The Department of Pathology seeks a full-time research laboratory specialist to participate in translational studies of rare neurodegenerative diseases. The applicant will become an integral member of Dr. Lieberman's research laboratory. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to perform experiments using various state-of-the-art techniques involving cell biology, molecular biology, and in vivo animal models. This position also provides the opportunity to learn cutting-edge primary cell culture, biochemical, and genetic techniques. The selected candidate will help with executing experiments under the supervision of senior laboratory personnel and the principal investigator. 

Responsibilities*

Perform mRNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, and qRT-PCR.
Maintain primary cell cultures and cell lines for experiments.
Process murine samples for genetic, biochemical, and histologic analysis.
Cryosection frozen tissues and perform immunohistochemistry experiments.
Conduct in vivo rodent experiments.
Analyze protein expression by western blotting.
Collaborate scientifically with colleagues, including training new lab members and supervising/mentoring undergraduate students.
Contribute to general lab upkeep.

Required Qualifications*

Bachelor's degree in science field which is directly related to the duties of the position

1-3 years related experience to be considered for the Associate level of this position and 4-5 years related experience to be considered for the Intermediate level

Strong writing and communication skills

Proficiency in Prism and MS Office

Research lab experience in cell culture and molecular biology along with proficiency in routine laboratory techniques.

Proficiency in English, strong work ethic, computer (word processing, PowerPoint, and spreadsheet software), and communication skills.

A strong motivation to advance research and laboratory techniques, along with the ability to solve problems and develop new research directions.

Preference will be given to applicants who take initiative and work well with other research team members.

Desired Qualifications*

Master's degree in science field which is directly related to the duties of the position

Additional lab experience in areas of iPSC culture, mouse phenotyping and handling, imaging, and biochemistry is preferred.
