Job Summary
Children's Emergency Services (CES) is a primary entry point for C.S. Mott Children?s Hospital, a verified Level One Pediatric Trauma Center and U.S. News & World Report nationally ranked children?s hospital providing care to children and young adults ages 0-20 years. CES nurses partner with board certified pediatric emergency medicine faculty and pediatric residents to provide expert family-centered care for over 34,000 patients each year presenting with injuries and illnesses across the wide range of acuity from minor to complex critical care.
Responsibilities*
- Develop, coordinate, execute, evaluate, and update nursing and tech orientation for the Children's Emergency Services (CES). Develop, educate, and evaluate unit preceptors. Coordination of multidisciplinary, interdepartmental orientation experiences.
- In collaboration with the Clinical Nursing Director and Nursing Leadership Team, monitor and evaluate the orientees performance in the clinical area during the first 6 months of employment.
- Provide regular communication to the Nursing Director and new employees on performance/progress. Provide remedial orientation/education as needed.
- Identify on-going educational requirements and facilitate continuing education as appropriate.
- Conduct individualized and group learning programs for nursing and tech staff based on needs assessments and monitoring of the unit?s clinical patient care standards and outcomes.
- Assist in the design and implementation of staff developmental plans with respect to education.
- Facilitate the completion of unit based mandatories and institutional regulatory requirements.
- Actively participate in CES Nursing Leadership Team, research, CQI and facility wide educational groups.
- Maintain accurate documentation in hospital records and other databases.
- Serve as nursing role model through the provision of direct patient care in all treatment areas of the CES on a regular basis.
Required Qualifications*
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing or equivalent education and experience
- Pediatric Specialty Certification
- Minimum of five (5) years recent experience in an Emergency Department that predominately cares for children
- Teaching experience within a variety of settings with demonstrated knowledge of adult learning concepts and the nursing developmental model
- Active involvement and leadership in unit and institutional teams.
- Current PALS & ACLS Provider
- Current TNCC & ENPC Provider

Hourly range for RSAM Competent, Registered Nurses $43.10-$67.03/ hour
- Evening Shift Differential-$3.00 / hour
- Night Shift Differential- $4.00 / hour

- Night Shift Weekend Differential- $6.90 / hour

ENC- COMPETENT.
Actual RSAM LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
RSAM levels range from ENC-COMPETENT to ENC-EXPERT TO ENC-MASTERY. TO ENC- MASTERY PLUS

Modes of Work
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
Work Schedule
- Hours/Week: 40 hours
- Shift: Nights, Monday thru Friday. Flexibility required for rotation to all shifts, to potentially include weekends, to meet the educational needs of staff.
- Location: C. S. Mott Childrens Hospital- Children's Emergency Services
- Note: This position may include an 8 hour/week staffing component in CES as part of the appointment fraction.
Union Affiliation
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
