Responsibilities*
To provide general office and call center support services to an outpatient clinical practice; schedule and coordinate appointments in MiChart. Check in, check out, and telephones. Complete financial documents and collect cash/credit card payments from patients using established guidelines. Determine the necessity within established guidelines for immediate attention for patient conditions of an emergent nature.
Work with patients/families, physicians and staff to facilitate referral requests and the scheduling of specialty services. Handle incoming phone calls and walk-ins regarding inquiries about an appointment, referrals, prior authorizations and Michigan Medicine services.
Required Qualifications*
Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Desired Qualifications*
- 1 year of customer service experience
- Michart (EPIC) experience.
- Great Customer Serve skills.
- The ability to provlem solve in a calm and professional manner.
- Considerable knowledge of front end operations, cash collections and third party reimbursement policies and procedures.
- Knowledgeable with the various types of insurances.
- Understanding of a Primary Care Office.
- Ability to understand medical terminology and ICD-9 coding.
- Position requires individual to be flexible and must exhibit a professional and positive image when interacting with patients, faculty and staff.
Knowledge of Michigan Medicine Health Systems Policies and Procedures.
- Recent experience in an outpatient setting.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Must be organized, a self-starter and motivated with strong problem solving skills.
- Must be able to work well in a team setting, demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills, and the ability to work well with others.
- Ability to explain coverage and co-pays to patients.

Modes of Work
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
Work Schedule
This is a health care environment. Must be flexible and available to work full-time Monday-Friday and rotating Saturdays. Hours will vary 7:00am-7:00pm working 8-hour shifts and Saturday 8:00am-12:00pm working 4-hour shift.

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
