Job Summary

We are looking to hire undergraduate research assistants for the Alley Activation Project.  This involves working collaboratively with UM-Dearborn faculty, the organization DAVIS (Detroit Ain't Violent It's Safe) and Detroit community residents to develop design templates for repurposing alleyways in different neighborhoods to meet social, economic and environmental needs. Depending on your skills and technological experience, the pay is $20 hour.

Required Qualifications*

  • Knowledge or interest in the intersection of urban sociology, design and ecology.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Skills or interest in gaining skills in development of site plans, 3-dimensional graphics, project budgets, reports/renderings/infographics, developing policy briefs, communicating research findings in reports and publications, and grant writing.
  • Ability to work on a diverse research team, interact with community members, organize and facilitate virtual public meetings, and other tasks. 
  • Strong artistic skills, or ability to use PhotoShop, Illustrator, SketchUp or other graphic design software.
