Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated professional, with strong interpersonal skills, to serve as a Community Engagement Liaison in the Department of Psychiatry. In this role, you will work directly with clinicians, behavioral health clinics, community organizations, and internal teams to facilitate partnerships, advance care strategies, and lead education and training efforts that improve outcomes for individuals with substance use disorders (SUD).

This position is embedded within the U-M Addiction Centers MI-ACRE program (https://miacre.medicine.umich.edu/), which focuses on accelerating the implementation of innovative, scalable approaches to SUD treatment through partnerships with health systems, community organizations, and policymakers.

The Community Engagement Liaison position is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of community engagement and innovative research to improve SUD care services throughout the State of Michigan. In this position, you will work with a thriving and positive team, connect directly with the community, and encounter opportunities for career mentoring and growth in the field of addiction. The individual in this position may be asked to support additional research projects as opportunities or grant needs arise.

Responsibilities*

Key job responsibilities will include:

Facilitating Partnerships
Building and maintaining relationships with behavioral health clinics, community organizations, and substance use disorder professionals

Advancing Care Strategies 
Assessing current practices, identifying gaps, and recommending practical solutions to enhance patient outcomes 
Developing protocols, user-centered toolkits, and resources that promote evidence-based approaches to substance use disorder treatment

Leading Education & Training Efforts
Designing and delivering engaging trainings for behavioral health providers and community partner organizations
Translating complex concepts into clear, actionable frameworks
Presenting confidently to diverse audiences in small and large group settings

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience
  • 1-3 years of experience in a related field. 
  • Excellent professionalism, organizational skills, and attention to detail
  • Commitment to improving addiction care
  • Strong group facilitation and public speaking skills
  • Experience leading professional trainings
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work and engage with teams remotely, thus comfort with technology and remote communication is required
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel to the Ann Arbor office and to communities throughout the State of Michigan

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience in the substance use disorder field (especially relevant to stimulant use disorder)
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate across organizations
  • Experience developing educational materials, clinical protocols, or program resources
  • Knowledge of the research process, experience in a large, complex health care setting, and the ability to effectively communicate with staff and faculty of all levels
  • Familiarity with university policies and procedures 
  • Experience working on a multi-disciplinary team 
  • Proficiency with electronic health record systems, Qualtrics, REDCap, and Microsoft Excel

Modes of Work

Work Schedule

This position is a full time 40 hour per week position with regular hours as discussed with the manager, but requires some flexibility and availability to work a varying schedule with some evening and weekend shifts as needed.

Work Locations

We are currently working in a hybrid environment, at times requiring in-person days at off site campus located in Ann Arbor, MI. 

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.

In addition to the screenings indicated above under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.
