IHPI supports health services research across the University of Michigan campus. IHPI's Data & Methods Hub was created to provide several unique support services, including access to data sets, methodological support, and assistance with data use agreements, to help build a vigorous and supportive research community.
IHPI?s Data & Methods Hub is seeking a full-time DUA & Research Data Resources Coordinator to support the administrative activities related to data use agreement (DUA) maintenance, permissions management, and data resource onboarding. This position plays a critical role in ensuring IHPI researchers have timely, compliant access to CMS and other restricted datasets. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who desires a career in health services research administration and data governance.
This position is located at the North Campus Research Complex; however, applicants will have the option of a hybrid or remote work schedule.
Responsibilities*
Data Use Agreement Maintenance
- Track expiration dates, renewal windows, and amendment requirements for active DUAs
- Coordinate with researchers, department administrators, and the DUA team to prepare and submit renewal and amendment packages
- Maintain organized, up-to-date records of all DUA documentation, approvals, and correspondence
- Monitor security policy updates and communicate relevant changes to affected research teams
- Ensure compliance with data security, storage, and destruction requirements outlined in active DUAs
IHPI Data Resource Documentation & Permissions
Maintain and update internal documentation for IHPI-managed data resources (e.g., access guides, data dictionaries, onboarding materials)
Process and track researcher data access requests; coordinate approvals with data custodians and IRB as needed
Manage user access rosters and permission changes across data platforms
- Assist with periodic audits of active data access to ensure ongoing compliance
Data Onboarding Support
- Guide new researchers through the data access request and onboarding process
- Prepare orientation materials and walkthroughs for commonly used data resources
- Serve as a primary point of contact for researcher questions related to data availability, access requirements, and DUA obligations
General Administrative & Coordination
- Liaise with UM central offices (e.g., Office of Research, Advanced Research Computing, Health Information Technology and Services, Institutional Review Board) on data governance matters
- Contribute to special projects related to IHPI data infrastructure as needed
Required Qualifications*
? Bachelor's degree or higher
? Proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
? Proficiency with Google Workspace tools - Sheets, Docs, etc.
? Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form
? Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
? Ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing priorities
? Strong interpersonal skills, work ethic, and a service-oriented attitude
? Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Intermediate: A bachelor's degree is required. 4-5 years of experience in a related field.
Associate: A bachelor's degree is required. 1-3 years of experience in a related field.
Desired Qualifications*
? Experience with research data governance, IRB processes, or data use agreements
? Familiarity with CMS data resources (e.g., Medicare fee-for-service, Medicaid TAF, Master Beneficiary Summary Files, Limited Datasets)
? Experience with University of Michigan research proposal management systems (e.g., eRPM and eResearch)
? Interest or experience in health services research and basic study design for health services research
