Job Summary
The Native Nourishment Research Team (NNRT) led by Dr. Maudrie is seeking a collaborative, energetic, and hands-on leader who will contribute to the team's growth and community-based participatory research (CBPR). The NNRT conducts health, nutrition, and food sovereignty research in partnership with Tribal, Inter-Tribal, and Urban Native communities.
Under the direction and supervision of Dr. Maudrie, the successful candidate will serve as the Program Manager and share responsibility for the day-to-day management of CBPR studies and community engagement efforts and participate in program planning and strategy. Duties will include logistical responsibilities for research administration, supporting student research assistants, qualitative and quantitative data collection, and occasional travel/event management.
This position is a half-time staff position providing full University of Michigan benefits which requires some flexible scheduling of evening and weekend work around busy periods of data collection and community events. Responsibilities*
Program and Research Administration
- Manage day-to-day office needs including interfacing with IT and AV services and ordering office/research supplies.
- Manage regular/consistent email, phone, and other communications with our Tribal community partners, members of our community research council, and students.
- Manage expenses and transactions for the research team, including purchases and honoraria for community research council members.
- Manage UM and Tribal institutional review board applications and compliance.
- Aid in and organize data collection efforts, including participant recruitment.
Organize information for community reports and research manuscripts.
Student Mentoring and Supervision
- Advise students individually and in groups, helping them refine career interests and goals.
- Assist students with completing action items for the research team, while developing skills to prepare them for future opportunities.
- Foster a culture that promotes student success, well-being, and community.
Travel and Event Management
- Coordinate all event and travel arrangements, ensuring all necessary materials and supplies are assembled, itineraries/communications prepared, and expense reports submitted and reimbursed.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge on SSW and U-M best practices with preferred vendors as well as PCard and Short Code payment policies.
- Work with students, staff, and Dr. Maudrie to execute large and small events.
- Plan and oversee student trips including several local site visits and conferences as needed.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's Degree in a recognized field of learning.
- Demonstrated experience working in research support or program coordination/management roles
- Knowledge of personal computing software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Suite.
- Ability to work independently by setting own deadlines and prioritizing multiple tasks.
- Ability to maintain integrity of confidential materials, research protocols, and student information.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to establish positive and respectful working relationships with a diverse community of students, faculty, and community members.
- Demonstrated experience working with American Indian/Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian communities on research and related projects.
- Knowledge of Tribal Institutional Review Boards and Ethical Review Processes.
Desired Qualifications*
- MSW or relevant graduate degree and 5 years of experience.
- Knowledge of software such as Canva, Adobe Suite, Mailchimp, U-M Canvas, Stata, and Atlas.ti.
- Program/Research recruitment experience.
- The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of higher education practices, U-M procedures, and campus resources.
- The ideal candidate will be a "details person" who is highly organized, able to manage complex projects, and plans ahead for long-term team success.
- Supervisory experience is a plus.
