Department Summary:

Michigan Housing is an actively engaged unit within Student Life Auxiliary Services within the Division of Student Life. M Housing serves approximately 11,500 students; 9,100 undergraduate and 2,400 graduate and professional students and their families. Although first-year students are not required to live on campus; historically 96-98% of all new first-year students choose to live on.

Currently, the M Housing portfolio consists of 20 residential facilities that include traditional residence halls, apartments, and other living options located in communities on north and central campuses in Ann Arbor and in Detroit. In partnership with Michigan Dining, there are 9 dining halls and 9 retail operations embedded within the residence halls that serve approximately 4 million meals per year. In Fall 2026, an additional five new residence halls housing 2,300 undergraduate students and a new 822-seat dining facility will open to continue M Housing's strong tradition of providing affordable housing options and services for U-M students.  In addition to supporting the academic mission of the University, M Housing creates and sustains diverse learning-centered residential communities that ultimately enhance the residential experience.

Position Summary:

The Digital Marketing Associate supports the coordination and execution of marketing and communications initiatives that promote the Michigan Housing experience. This position plays a key support role to tell the story of on-campus living to prospective and returning residents and their supporters through strategic and creative communication. As directed by leadership, this position will also provide assistance to other units within the Student Life Auxiliaries portfolio.

Responsibilities*


Position Responsibilities (primary responsibilities and duties expected in this position totaling 100% allocation):

Coordination Support for Marketing and Communications 50%

  • Support communications and creative content related to the opening of Wolverine Village opening in Fall 2026.
  • Manage photographic and videographic materials for Michigan Housing events, initiatives, and storytelling campaigns documenting student experiences and contributing to a collection of brand-consistent visual assets.
  • Maintain and oversee the internal systems including deploying flyers and content for digital screens, social media and print publications.
  • Compile and edit department newsletter for all professional and student staff.
  • Organize and maintain project documentation, brand assets, photography archives and marketing materials.
  • Manage and maintain digital signage in residential communities; troubleshoot issues, provide user training, assess utilization, and coordinate with Student Life Technology Solutions to address technical concerns.
  • Support creative projects from initial concept to final delivery, establishing timelines, tracking progress, and ensuring timely completion of all deliverables.
  • Assist with the collection and tracking of analytics and performance data to inform marketing strategies.

Manage Social Media Systems  and Technology  25%

  • Provide functional coordination of Michigan Housing's Instagram account. Monitor social channels for questions and concerns, ensuring timely and appropriate responses.
  • Manage updates to Michigan Housing website and knowledgebase articles
  • Monitor and stay up-to-date with emerging trends in social media, digital media, and technology.
  • Track and maintain digital accessibility guidance as it relates to department communications.
  • Manage  a comprehensive social media content calendar in alignment with the Michigan Housing communications plan.
  • Partner with the Communication Specialist to provide supervision, coaching, and mentoring to student marketing staff and interns. Hire, train and supervise student staff contributing to the social platform.

Administrative Duties 25%

  • Manage a sustainable plan for periodic review of all websites and knowledge base articles.
  • Respond to questions from students, parents, and other stakeholders around emerging issues on behalf of the Communications Specialist, including topics of campus, local, state, or national significance.
  • Provide supervision to student staff representing Michigan Housing at on-and-off-campus events, including Campus Day, Orientation and community programs.
  • Deliver presentations and engage with students, families, supporters and campus partners to promote the benefits of on-campus living.
  • Provide general administrative support, scheduling, purchasing, budget tracking and logistical coordination for marketing and outreach activities.
  • Manage Michigan Housing Scholarship portfolio. Manage stewardship and distribution of M Housing scholarship funds.
  • Work with Student Life Business & Finance to evaluate fund balances, and execute awards
  • Act as liaison to University Development; facilitate donor tours and proposals as requested.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

The list must have the qualifications needed to be considered for this position.  

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, or related field.
  • Demonstrable experience using creative software tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro or similar.
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills with attention to detail.

Desired Qualifications*

  • One to two years of experience in marketing, communications, or creative coordination roles.
  • Proficiency with social media management platforms and analytics tools.
  • Experience with website content management systems such as WordPress.
  • Awareness of accessibility standards, inclusive marketing practices, and brand compliance requirements.
  • Strong project management skills, with proven ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Working Conditions:

Occasional evenings and weekends during peak business operations, such as Fall Move-in at the end of August. Weekend work required over summer to support orientation sessions. Late night work may be necessary to handle emerging crisis situations (e.g, major incidents within M Housing facilities)

Physical Requirements:

Position requires working with a computer for the majority of the day, with frequent phone calls. Routinely moves items weighing under 20 pounds.

Selected candidates whose start date is 4/1/2026 or after, will not be eligible for the university FY26-27 salary/merit plan unless otherwise notified.
