Job Summary

The Alumni Association of the University of Michigan is seeking a Business Systems Analyst with Project Management experience to support the implementation of our digital transformation projects and help deliver future technology-centric, business-driven goals. This role will serve as both a business analysis lead and a project delivery partner, helping translate business needs into clear requirements while also managing project implementation activities.

 

The ideal candidate has experience supporting technology projects, facilitating cross-functional collaboration, documenting business and technical requirements, and helping teams move from concept to successful delivery.  Exposure to Salesforce technologies and/or related ecosystem platforms is preferred.

Responsibilities*

  • Partner with stakeholders across the organization to understand business goals, operational needs, challenges, opportunities, and success criteria
  • Facilitate discovery sessions, stakeholder interviews, workshops, and process-mapping
  • Translate business needs into clear documentation, including business requirements, functional requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, data mappings, and success metrics
  • Analyze business processes, challenge the existing status quo, and recommend improvements that increase efficiency, consistency, scalability, data quality, and user experience
  • Serve as a liaison between business users, internal technology team members, vendors, consultants, and implementation partners
  • Manage and/or support the delivery of technology initiatives, system enhancements, platform implementations, and cross-functional projects
  • Develop and maintain project plans, timelines, milestones, status reports, risks, and dependencies
  • Schedule and facilitate project meetings, working sessions, sprint planning, backlog reviews, demos, and decision-making processes
  • Track progress against scope, schedule, budget, resources, and business objectives
  • Identify and escalate risks, blockers, scope changes, and competing priorities
  • Support project governance by maintaining clear documentation, decisions, approval processes, and stakeholder alignment
  • Help ensure projects are delivered with appropriate planning, communication, testing, training, adoption, and post-launch support.
  • Apply Agile, hybrid, or traditional project management practices as appropriate based on project needs and business goals
  • Develop and manage test plans, test cases, acceptance criteria, defect logs, and user acceptance testing activities
  • Help prepare training materials, user guides, process documentation, release notes, and adoption resources
  • Support communication plans for system changes, releases, new functionality, and process updates
  • Gather post-implementation feedback, lessons learned, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Help teams adapt to new tools, processes, and ways of working
  • Support integration planning across Salesforce, membership systems, events platforms, marketing tools, finance systems, websites, and other enterprise applications
  • Help evaluate opportunities for automation, analytics, AI-adoption, and operational efficiency

 

General Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide organizational leadership by demonstrating AAUM core values: All In, Serving Heart, and Solution Seeker, and helping other staff members demonstrate those values.
  • Value and embrace different identities and perspectives, recognizing that everyone has unique and different experiences that contribute to the best solution seeking and success for AAUM. 
  • Work with AAUM staff members to gain a clear and consistent understanding of the details of the strategic plan and feel equal ownership of every piece of it, including pieces for which there is no direct responsibility.
  • Be collaborative with all AAUM staff and teams. Operate as a critical contributing member of the staff to complete objectives in many different areas in order to move the whole organization toward the strategic plan.
  • Support University Relations efforts by demonstrating AAUM value to campus units/partners (i.e., schools/colleges, campuses).
  • Continually build digital skill sets in order to implement into work.
  • Staff and participate in team meetings, Alumni Association events that may be during evenings or weekends, and staff retreats including offsite, overnight staff retreats at Camp Michigania.
  • Provide staff support to the Alumni Association's Board of Directors, its committees, and other volunteers as needed.
  • Coordinate special projects as assigned or required.
  • Participate in Alumni Association and other University committees as required.
  • Share knowledge through internal communication.
  • Support the Alumni Association's vision of creating a place of belonging for all alumni.
  • Remain current with respect to technology and the university's educational resources.

 

Supervision Received

Direct supervision is received from the Information Systems Manager.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a business systems analyst, business analyst, project management, product analyst, systems analyst, or similar role
  • Experience supporting or managing technology projects, system implementations, tech enhancements, process improvements, and digital transformation initiatives
  • Very strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to create project plans, track milestones, manage project risks, coordinate stakeholders, and communicate project status
  • Strong facilitation, communication, analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills
  • Experience creating project/business documents, such as business requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, test plans, status reports, risk logs, decision logs, and implementation plans
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing to a collaborative team

Desired Qualifications*

  • Familiarity with Salesforce technologies and key concepts such as objects, fields, records, workflows, automation, reports, and integrations
  • Project management experience using Agile, Scrum, Kanban, waterfall, and/or hybrid methodologies
  • Experience with project management and collaboration tools such as Asana, Jira, Lucidchart, and Google Workspace
  • Experience working with vendors, consultants, implementation partners, or managed service providers
  • Experience with non-profits, associations, and membership organizations
  • Familiarity with change management, training, stakeholder engagement, and user adoption plans
  • Salesforce certification, project management certification, business analysis certification, and/or Agile certification

Work Locations

The Alumni Center is located in Ann Arbor, MI. This position is hybrid and currently requires 2 days in the office a week. Starting in the fall, the position will require 3 days in the office a week.
