Job Summary
The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Department of Psychology at the University of Michigan invite applications for a Lecturer I position at 100% effort for the Fall Term 2026 and Winter Term 2027. This appointment is scheduled to begin on August 31, 2026 and end on April 30, 2027, with the likelihood of extension for at least one additional academic year.
Responsibilities*
Duties of this Lecturer I position are expected to include teaching, developing course materials, evaluating and grading students, and holding regularly scheduled office hours. A typical full-time (100% effort) load for a Lecturer I in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is three courses per semester. Course offerings will be associated with the Social Psychology Area and might include: Emotion, Motivation, Social Cognition, the Self, Social Neuroscience, and Current Topics in Social Psychology (titles such as: Morality, Misinformation, Globalization, Well-Being, Health, Digital Life, Environment). We are open to additional topics that match the hire's specific area of expertise, fit within the Social Area, and are not otherwise offered.
Course Objectives: In each semester, teach Introduction to Social Psychology (200-level) and a gateway course with a target enrollment of 300 students. This position would lead the lecture section of Introduction to Social Psychology, as well as coordinate with the assigned graduate student instructors who lead the course's associated discussion sections. This course is credited as two teaching credits due to the enrollment total and course obligations. Additionally, in one semester, the additional course would be Advanced Lab/Research Methods in Social Psychology (300-level), enrolling up to 30 students. In the other semester, the Lecturer would teach a new course (300- or 400-level) as described in the list above, which they would have developed together with area faculty.
Required Qualifications*
The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in psychology, or a closely related field. The candidate must have demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching in the United States. The selection criteria used for this search is based on how the applicant's education and experience meet the required minimum qualifications for the position. Excellence in teaching and instruction will be the principal criteria used to select the successful candidate.
Desired Qualifications*
Preference will be given to candidates with training in Social Psychology, as well as teaching experience in this domain.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
