Responsibilities*

  • Perform telephone triage, including assessment, screening, and clinical advice; direct patient care including injections, patient education, documentation with follow up and coordination with ancillary services and related departments, and other duties as assigned  
  • Provide functional supervision to allied health staff.
  • Accurate and efficient documentation of nursing care.
  • Knowledge and appropriate use of internal and external resources, including UMH policies and protocols.
  • Provide functional supervision to assistive personnel; collaborate with colleagues, other disciplines, and health care/community services to promote continuity of care for optimal patient outcomes. 
  • Independently and completely performs focused assessment to provide best practice patient care for patients and families as appropriate.  
  • Actively participate and support performance improvement activities related to self, clinic, department, and institutional goals and objectives. 
  • Assist in orientation of team members as appropriate, including observation and participation of patient care activities.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Michigan (RN)
  • Three (3) years out of the last five (5) years of RN experience in an inpatient adult pulmonary unit or outpatient adult pulmonary clinic
  • Proficiency with MiChart inbasket management and documentation of patient encounters in electronic health record, e.g., Epic as indicated by interviews, references, and/or performance evaluations in past 2 out of 3 years of RN experience.
  • Experience providing patient/family education in past 3 out of 5 years of RN experience.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills as evidenced by interviews, evaluations, and references in past 3 out of 5 years of RN experience.

Desired Qualifications*

  • One (1) year out of the last three (3) years of RN experience with telehealth and phone triage nursing.

Salary range for Registered Nurses

Hourly range for Registered Nurses $41.78-$64.81/ hour  
Evening Shift Differential-$3.00 / hour 
Night Shift Differential- $4.00 / hour
Day Shift Weekend Differential- $2.90 / hour
Evening Shift Weekend Differential- $5.90 / hour
Night Shift Weekend Differential- $6.90 / hour
Charge Nurse Differential- $1.00 / hour

Nursing Specific Info

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:
This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C.
Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. Posting may be filled after the initial 5-day posting period.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Work Schedule

  • Hours/Week: 40 hours/week.    
  • Shift/Hours/Days: Day Shift; Mon-Fri, with possibility for evenings and Saturdays may be required. Hours may be variable based on patient and volume needs.  Flexibility is required.
  • Location: Taubman Center, with potential to work in other offsite locations. 
  • All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
