Job Summary

The Department of Recreational Services is seeking a student Finance Assistant. This individual will regularly communicate with professional staff, as well as club sport officers, players and coaches in their work. Responsibilities will require regular weekday office hours (approximately 5-10 hours/week) at the Recreation Center to process requests and maintain accurate financial records. When time permits, the staff member also has the opportunity to assist with tasks in areas of interest, such as event management, and team travel arrangements. 

Responsibilities*

  • Processing purchase and reimbursement requests from rec staff and club sport officers
  • Submitting necessary documentation for payments to referees, coaches and other contractors
  • Prepare weekly cash bags for rec center business operations
  • Communicating with others to obtain necessary financial documents and receipts
  • Completing purchases over the phone, by email, and online
  • Reconciling expenses and deposits with University records on a regular basis to ensure accurate account balances are available in spreadsheets
  • Assisting Club Sports staff with other financial related tasks, such as cash handling at the ticket counter for ice hockey games
  • Performing clerical duties and other assigned tasks

Required Qualifications*

  • Current UM-Flint student
  • Experience using Excel and/or Google spreadsheets
  • High level of attention to detail and ability to work independently 

Desired Qualifications*

  • Work study award for the current or upcoming academic semester
  • Desire to enter finance, accounting or other related field upon degree completion

Modes of Work

Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence.  Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan

Additional Information
