Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Broadcast has a range of video production responsibilities including overseeing the Student U program which broadcasts Michigan Athletic events to the Big Ten Network. They will help recruit, train and manage current students to produce quality broadcasts of Michigan athletic events.
Responsibilities*
Essential Functions
- Primary contact for all Student U productions and needs.
- Before each event, prepare control room and move or manage movement of equipment to each facility.
- Responsible for teaching students the various areas of the control room. Producing, directing, technical directing, running camera, replays, graphics and working with the announcers to ensure we are providing a quality product that will not only represent BTN well but also Michigan Athletics.
- Troubleshoot problems and find solutions in a timely manner to minimize the disruption of events.
- When able, work with the in house production to share resources between productions.
- Manage payroll for the students.
- Work in collaboration with The Big Ten Network on break formats, filling out crew sheets for each event, updates to their graphics packages, managing the service needed to equipment, and communications between the network and the students.
- Help recruit, train, and supervise students in the operation of all control room related functions.
- Responsible for periodic maintenance checks are performed with switchers, replay, router, graphics, multiviewer, and intercom systems.
- Assist with the budget, forecast the emerging demands, and make recommendations for upgrades when they are needed.
- Occasionally assist with the in-house videoboard productions and streaming of events outside of Student U productions.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds for moving video production gear between facilities

Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree in communications, video production, or film studies.
- Minimum of four (4) years of direct experience related to video production.
- Ability to work nights and weekends during competitive season(s) and unplanned activities; on-call availability necessary.
Desired Qualifications*
- Knowledge of Ross Xpression graphics system, Carbonite switcher, replay systems, fiber optic transmission, Dante audio, and ability to integrate scoring data with in-house databases and graphics systems.
- General knowledge of various collegiate sports and how they operate.
