Job Summary

The person in this position will work closely with the program directors, program managers, Design & Informatics team, and staff of the Michigan Collaborative for Type 2 Diabetes (MCT2D) to lead and support design-focused quality improvement initiatives across the collaborative. This role will serve as the primary project lead for digital, design, and informatics initiatives across the collaborative, responsible for coordinating stakeholders, managing project scope and timelines, and ensuring successful implementation of strategic priorities. 

The person in this position will do this by overseeing cross-functional projects involving the planning, development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of digital tools, educational resources, dashboards, data visualizations, websites, and other collaborative initiatives.

They will partner closely with the MCT2D Design and Informatics team, the MCT2D coordinating center leadership, and other stakeholders to translate complex healthcare information and data into intuitive, user-centered experiences that support patients and healthcare professionals across the State of Michigan.

This position will also lead project management activities related to design and informatics initiatives, including coordinating cross-functional teams, monitoring timelines and deliverables, proactively communicating project progress and barriers, and ensuring that all work meets high standards for quality, usability, and stakeholder experience. The individual will help guide strategic opportunities for innovation by incorporating user feedback, co-design methods, and human-centered design principles into collaborative initiatives and quality improvement efforts.

The list of stakeholders for this position includes the MCT2D program directors, program managers, Design & Informatics team, and staff; the Michigan Data Collaborative; Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan; patients and their families and support networks; and clinicians throughout the State of Michigan.

Responsibilities*

Leadership and Project Management (55%)

  • Develop and manage project charters, work plans, timelines, resource requirements, and success metrics. 
  • Coordinate project teams composed of design, informatics, clinical, administrative, and external stakeholders. 
  • Independently prioritize initiatives and allocate effort across competing collaborative priorities. 
  • Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies. 
  • Make operational decisions regarding project scope, sequencing, and resource utilization. 
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for project outcomes. 
  • Work with MCT2D's leadership team and Design & Informatics team to propose and oversee design, development, and implementation of quality improvement projects and tools.
  • Track and proactively report on project performance to the MCT2D leadership team, including barriers, schedule or scope changes, progress to date, and completion of milestones.
  • Ensure the project experience and results delivered measure up to the highest standards and expectations of both internal and external users.
  • Co-lead Design and Informatics team meetings to ensure understanding of project details.
  • Oversee team execution of project deliverables following the established project plan and proactively follow up with team members and external stakeholders to ensure project deliverables are on track. 
  • Identify and raise budget, scope or timeline concerns and offer ideas for solutions.
  • Collect and share/report data measuring project performance against established goals.
  • Identify additional projects and new opportunities guided by feedback from MCT2D participants or program leadership.

Design (40%)

  • Create original, artful, user-centered visual media?ranging from printed clinic posters, user interface and interaction designs for web and mobile applications, interactive data visualizations that meet the needs of our stakeholders. Combine creative concept development, strong visual storytelling, and technical execution to engage stakeholders, meet the organization's strategic priorities, and convey complex healthcare data and information in a straightforward yet engaging manner.
  • Visual media will include high-end web and print graphics, short animations and videos, templates, slide decks, infographics, brochures, fact sheets, and user interface components and interactions.
  • Manage a repository of all design-related projects as well as a library of branded assets.
  • Lead MCT2D's resource maintenance, supervising the MCT2D Admin to ensure that all tools receive annual audit, review, revisions, and sign off. 
  • Partnering with the Michigan Data Collaborative, the MCT2D program directors and data team to design visualizations for the MCT2D Patient Data Dashboard.
  • Serve as the human-centered design expert and ensure that all MCT2D resources, tools, and programs are created in a human centered manner, as well as the presentation of data through the Patient Data Dashboard and scientific posters and presentations.
  • Lead branding efforts and maintain high-quality, cohesive branding for existing collaborative work, and develop distinct and engaging visual identities for new initiatives.

Required Qualifications*

  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects from conception through implementation. 

  • Experience developing project plans, timelines, budgets, and stakeholder communication strategies. 

  • Experience facilitating requirements gathering and translating organizational goals into project deliverables. 

  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex initiatives involving multiple stakeholders. 

  • Strong demonstrated ability to work on cross-functional teams - design, engineering, subject matter experts (e.g. clinicians), and operations to foster collaboration and ensure successful project/product advancement, launch, and continuous improvement (CI).

  • Demonstrated commitment to and expertise in human-centered design and its application in real-world settings. 

  • Experience with co-design methods and gathering feedback in various modalities including focus groups, and user feedback sessions.

  • Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g. Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), as well as Figma, with the ability to evaluate, choose, and learn the right tools for each job.

  • Experience in UX/UI research and design.

  • Ability to translate partially formed ideas and overarching strategies into cohesive projects and shape the work to meet program goals.

  • Experience managing a wide variety of projects, including leading the design process in the development of print and digital tools, websites, etc.

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple projects while still working effectively and ensuring timely and proactive communication.

  • The ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently.

  • The ability to conceptualize, craft, revise iteratively with critiques from stakeholders, and present original media designs.

  • Experience producing both web and print media assets.

  • Experience developing and deploying visual branding standards.

  • Experience producing content and creating a visual strategy for social media, print, and web marketing campaigns.

  • Demonstrated effort advancing

  • Experience working with and visualizing data.

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience

  • A bachelor's degree in Multimedia Design, Graphic Design, or other related fields - or equivalent experience.
