Job Summary

The Michigan Arthroplasty Registry Collaborative for Quality Improvement (MARCQI) is a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) and Blue Care Network (BCN) Collaborative Quality Initiative (CQI) that aims to address inconsistencies and variations in patient outcomes related to hip and knee joint replacement surgery. The goals of MARCQI are to create a statewide quality improvement infrastructure by developing a consortium of hospitals in Michigan to engage in quality improvement activities for hip and knee joint replacement surgery procedures and reduce the costs of this care in the State of Michigan. We are bringing together arthroplasty practices across the state of Michigan to collaborate and share data regarding processes of care and clinical outcomes in the treatment of hip and knee replacement procedures. We are seeking a highly skilled individual who will serve as a Database Manager & Integration Specialist for our Coordinating Center full-time located in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  The MARCQI Coordinating Center collects and analyzes multi-sites observational data.  This position supports various activities for quality improvement.

Responsibilities*

This person will serve as a member of the MARCQI analytic team and be responsible for working closing with analytic team members, MARCQI Senior Program Manager, MARCQI Program Directors, and MARCQI coordinators.

Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

Database management (50%)

  • Under general direction, designs, implements, and maintains complex database, access methods, access time, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods.
  • Maintenance of database dictionaries, overall monitoring of standards and procedures, and integration of systems through database design
  • Interface with database vendor for data output usability
  • Navigate raw database output for quality control checks and data cleaning for analytic use
  • Map appropriate datasets from multiple resources
  • Support quality improvement analytic work with dataset development
  • Perform data transformation as needed
  • Create, update, and maintain data management processes documentation
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, team members, and end-users to identify and understand MARCQI clinical data collection needs 
  • Work with MARCQI Coordinating Center team members and database vendor in the design, implementation, testing, and deployment of technical data collection specifications
  • Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information appropriately.
  • Work to identify system requirements and security maintenance, HIPAA compliance, etc., potentially in conjunction with HITS

Database reporting (30%)

  • Develop, validate, and update database dashboards and queries with MARCQI database vendor 
  • Produce, update and design quarterly and Annual reports for quality improvement purposes
  • Work with MARCQI leadership for quality improvement metric reporting and surveillance

Statistical effort (15%)

  • Validation of report and dashboard analytics
  • Develop, test, and execute queries to support MARCQI quality initiatives
  • Understand data requirements for measuring and tracking MARCQI quality improvement projects and goals
  • Develop methodologies for metric tracking and management with leadership
  • Conduct intermediate statistical analyses such as computing descriptive statistics, modeling, and simple measures of data dispersion and variation
  • Create figures necessary for collaborative wide and work group meetings as requested
  • Actively participate in and attend all MARCQI collaborative meetings.
  • Assist sites and MARCQI Coordinators with data analysis reports utilization related to quality improvement projects.
  • Complete other assigned projects, as needed

Operating support (5%)

Required Qualifications*

  • Proven experience in data management, analysis, and reporting

  • Proficiency in programming languages and data science packages (e.g., SAS, Python, Pandas, SQL)

  • Prior experience in healthcare or clinical data management.

  • Familiarity with data collection and survey tools 

  • Attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy

  • Well-developed organization skills including, but not limited to, the ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Ability to work independently and cohesively as part of a team with strong interpersonal skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language.

  • Proficient ability to use Microsoft Office (e.g. Outlook, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint), Google Suite (e.g. Drive, Docs, Sheets, Jamboard), DropBox, EndNote, GitLab, Asana

  • Independently address tasks with minimal direct supervision 

  • Positive attitude and a willingness to identify areas needing support and providing it

  • Discretion when dealing with highly sensitive information 

  • Focus on customer service 

  • Well-developed organizational skills 

 

Senior level

  • Master's degree in a related field (e.g., Data Science, Computer Science, Health Science, Biostatistics, Statistics, Mathematics, Health Analytics, Information Science, Computer Engineering) with 2 - 3 years of relevant work experience  or  Bachelor's degree in the same fields with at least 3 - 5 years of relevant work experience

Intermediate level

  • Master's degree in a related field (e.g., Data Science, Computer Science, Health Science, Biostatistics, Statistics, Mathematics, Health Analytics, Information Science, Computer Engineering) with at least 1 year of relevant work experience  or Bachelor's degree in the same fields with at least 2 years of relevant work experience

Additional Information

This is a hybrid position that will require the ability to be in the office in Ann Arbor, Michigan 3-4 times a week.
