Job Summary

The Department of Recreational Services is seeking student staff to supervise the Recreation Center for the fall and winter semesters.  Staff will be responsible for helping create a welcoming and safe environment, and must have prior experience working in a recreation facility or similar setting with minimal supervision.  Shifts will be early mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities*

  • Opening and closing the building
  • Providing quality customer service
  • Understanding front desk and weight room policies and procedures.  
  • Additional responsibilities include assisting student staff while responding to emergencies and providing first aid when necessary.  

Required Qualifications*

  • Must be a current UM-Flint student
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion
  • Ability to obtain CPR/AED First Aid certification.
  • Experience working in a recreation setting.

Modes of Work

Onsite

The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence.  Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Background Screening

The University of Michigan conducts background checks on all job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background checks.  Background checks are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
