Responsibilities*
Provide effective and transformative leadership for a diverse workforce of Allied Health employees who support anesthesiology practice in several major Health System locations.
In collaboration with the Chief Nurse Anesthetist, hire, coach, evaluate, discipline and terminate employees. Schedule work hours and assignments for anesthesia technicians. Monitor and track service and paging trends to assure appropriate staffing allocation. Independently resolve daily operational activities, assignments and issues. Oversee the development and maintenance of training programs for the anesthesia technicians. Develop efficiency checks for anesthesia technical support staff. Conduct intermittent time studies. Confirm time reporting. Monitor supply and commodity usage. Develop, design, implement and maintain policies and procedures for the standardized setup, operator maintenance, and cleaning of anesthesia equipment. Ensure compliance with the safety, infection control, quality assurance, diversity, and affirmative action programs. Participate in the educational programs for faculty, fellows, residents, and staff in the use of specialized equipment. Oversee the development and implementation of procedures for the periodic and corrective maintenance of anesthesia equipment in collaboration with Biomedical Engineering. Oversee the management of anesthesia equipment and commodities. Oversee a system for assuring the daily availability of adequate equipment and supplies. Represent department on strategic committees as assigned. Participate in meetings or committees as assigned. Implement staffing reward program for anesthesia technicians.
This position involves moving anesthesia machines and carts to locations on 3rd floor of the C&W, and floors 1, B1, and B2 of UH; lifting up to 15 pounds; frequent selection of light supplies above one's head. Bending, stooping, twisting, and turning also involved in the position.
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree or equivalent of education and two years of experience in a leadership role. Ability to resolve conflict. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Experience using data to track utilization trends. Excellent analytical thinking skills. Demonstrated leadership effectiveness in fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. Evidence of demonstrated successful leadership ability in the following areas: excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills, communicating expectations, leading by example, promoting effective conflict resolution and building cohesive teams.
Desired Qualifications*
Recent success in a leadership role along with demonstrated ability to work effectively with administrators, peers and subordinates. Demonstrated experience in the application of LEAN principles is highly desired.
