Job Summary

Highly motivated individual sought for a Research Lab Technician Intermediate position in a translational research laboratory in the Department of Surgery with principal investigators Dr. Lauren Krumeich and Dr. Gary Hammer. The candidate will focus on the immunologic response to adrenal tumors utilizing mouse models and human specimens. This position provides an opportunity to work closely with the principal investigators as well as with a team of collaborative researchers. We are considering candidates at all levels of experience and can adjust the position as appropriate for the candidate, but the ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of bench research and murine experience. 

Responsibilities*

The candidate will work both independently and as part of a team participating in basic science/applied bench research using a combination of cellular and molecular biological approaches including mouse model research. It is expected that the applicant will have knowledge and skill in:

  1. Cell culture techniques (maintaining established cell lines, cell transfection).
  2.  Appropriate animal research techniques such as gender determination, proper handling and restraint of mice for routine procedures (e.g., physical examination, administration of medication), observation of mice for recognition of normal and abnormal physical and behavioral changes, anesthesia, euthanasia, and blood extraction.
  3. Immunohistochemical staining, RNA isolation, RT-qPCR, ELISA.
  4. Data logs, reagent ordering, general lab maintenance (waste disposal, cleaning), and overall smooth functioning of laboratory.

The applicant would be expected to demonstrate proficiency in these techniques within the first 2 weeks of hire. 

Required Qualifications*

  • Education and Experience: Minimum Associate's degree and 1-2 years' experience.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted, including relevant undergraduate and graduate student work experience. 
  • Applicant must be hard working, highly motivated, well organized, and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Applicant must have excellent oral and written English communication skills, effective judgment and problem-solving skills, an ability to work as a team member with a wide variety of co-workers, efficient multi-tasking skills, and meticulous attention to detail

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years of basic laboratory experience
