Job Summary
The Advanced Biotherapeutics Laboratory in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan seeks a full-time Research Laboratory Tech Senior to support interdisciplinary research at the interface of synthetic biology, microbiology, immunology, cancer biology, and engineered live biotherapeutics. The successful candidate will assist with molecular biology and microbiology experiments, laboratory organization, and day-to-day research operations.
Responsibilities*
Perform and support routine molecular biology experiments such as PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, plasmid preparation, cloning support, bacterial transformation, colony screening, and genotyping; maintain bacterial strains, plasmids, and organized sample inventories; assist with bacterial culture and preparation of reagents and media; support mousecolony documentation, periodic genotype verification, and breeder-health record coordination under approved protocols and institutional guidance; assist with sample collection, processing, labeling, storage, and data organization; maintain accurate lab notebooks, shared records, and inventory databases; place and track orders, receive/unpack supplies, organize common lab areas, and help maintain equipment/service records; support compliance with laboratory safety, biosafety, and animal research procedures; and work collaboratively with the PI, senior research staff, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduate researchers.
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, biomedical engineering, molecular biology, biochemistry, and 1-2 years' experience; careful attention to detail; strong organizational and communication skills; ability to work independently after training and as part of a team; willingness to learn new laboratory methods; and commitment to accurate documentation and safe laboratory practices.
Desired Qualifications*
Prior experience with molecular biology, bacterial culture, PCR/qPCR, cloning, mouse colony record keeping, genotyping, BSL-2 laboratory practices, ordering/inventory systems, and/or research laboratory operations.

This is an onsite position-5 days per week.
Additional Information
**This is a one-year term-limited position with the possibility of extension based upon need and funding. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.
Background Screening
