Responsibilities*

  • Provide the delivery of culturally sensitive, age-specific team-based care models in delivering nursing care to Allergy Clinic patients including adult and pediatric patient population
  • Perform oral immunotherapy testing, oral food challenge testing, and food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES) testing.  
  • Respond to allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, utilizing clinic protocols.  
  • Perform phone triage, including assessment, screening, clinical advice, nurse visits (in person/telephone), in-clinic hands on procedures, and other duties assigned.  
  • Accurate and efficient documentation of nursing care. 
  • Knowledge and appropriate use of internal and external resources, including UMH policies and protocols.
  • Provide functional supervision to assistive personnel; collaborate with colleagues, other disciplines, and health care/community services to promote continuity of care for optimal patient outcomes. 
  • Independently and completely perform focused assessment to provide best practice patient care for families and patients with allergy diagnoses including food sensitivities, food allergies, and other allergy diagnoses as appropriate.  
  • Administer allergy injections according to Allergy Division protocols.

  • Ability to manage complex clinical issues utilizing assessment skills, protocols, and evidence-based interventions.
  • Willingness to adapt to different populations pediatric and/or adult as patient demands.  Orientation and training would be provided for new subspecialties within Allergy Clinic based on expansion of division.  
  • Recognizes Allergy Specialty information.  
  • Prioritizes key nursing diagnoses to address physical and psychosocial/emotional areas.

  • Independently develops, implements, and evaluates plan of care that recognizes subtle changes in patients? condition and adapts plan as needed. 
  • Utilizes standard unit technology and uses advanced technology as appropriate.

  • Accurately assesses patient's/family's readiness to learn, organizes and executes individualized teaching plan, evaluates patient's understanding and modifies approach as necessary.

Required Qualifications*

  • Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Michigan (RN)
  • Three (3) years in the last five (5) years of RN experience with adult and/or pediatric patients in an Ambulatory Care Clinic setting 
  • Proficiency with MiChart inbasket management and documentation of patient encounters in electronic health records, e.g., Epic as indicated by interviews, references, and/or performance evaluations in past 3 out of 5 years of RN experience.
  • Experience providing patient/family education in past 3 out of 5 years of RN experience.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills as evidenced by interviews, evaluations, and reference in past 3 out of 5 years of RN experience.

Desired Qualifications*

  • BSN 
  • One year of RN experience giving allergy injections

  • One year of RN experience with telehealth and phone triage nursing within the last three (3) years, including patient triage and providing education by telephone

Salary & Nursing Framework Level:
This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C.
Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Work Schedule

  • Hours/Week: 36 hours/week in clinic.
  • Shift/Hours/Days: Day Shift; Monday through Friday.  Some evenings and Saturdays may be required (nontraditional including further weekend/holiday commitment). Hours may be variable based on patient and volume needs, with flexibility required. 
  • Location: Domino's Farms Allergy Clinic with potential to work in other Allergy locations. 
     
Note: All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census. 

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
