Job Summary
A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available in the Edwards Lab at the University of Michigan in the Department of Cell & Developmental Biology (CDB). We use a combination of developmental biology models including Xenopus (frog), mouse, and pluripotent stem cells, gene editing, and microscopy techniques to investigate the disease genetics and developmental biology of the trachea (windpipe) and esophagus (food pipe). Our group values teamwork, community, and intellectual growth. We are seeking a postdoctoral research fellow to independently design experiments related to the lab's ongoing research projects, direct data generation and analysis, bring new expertise and experience to the lab, and provide leadership to other lab members. The postdoctoral research fellow will pursue advanced scientific training mentored by the PI, Dr. Nicole Edwards, in a collaborative learning environment.
Responsibilities*
Research projects (80%)
Independently:
Design experiments
Direct data generation and analysis
Write the first draft of research manuscripts with input and feedback from the PI
Present experimental results internally and at scientific meetings
Lab mentoring and training (20%)
Train new lab members in routine experimental procedures
Mentor and provide leadership to other lab members including graduate students, undergraduate students, and staff technicians
Required Qualifications*
PhD in genetics, cell biology, developmental biology, or related field
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills contributing to a strong team environment
Basic molecular biology expertise and familiarity with imaging microscopy techniques
Desired Qualifications*
Background knowledge and expertise in developmental biology research
Previous experience working with animal and/or cell-based experimental models
