Job Summary

Function as part of a team to manage patient flow in a fast paced, outpatient clinic setting. Duties included but are not limited to the following: taking vitals, accurately updating medications and other information in the electronic medical record, prepping patient and physicians for procedures, and maintaining clinic flow.

Maintaining, ordering, and stocking supplies for exam rooms

Ensuring appropriate infection control protocol is followed

Properly managing equipment to ensure it is well-maintained and ready-for-use

Assist in complex procedures, requiring knowledge of complex and varied equipment including endoscopic equipment

Problem-solve issues related to the retrieval of medical information

Required Qualifications*

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program OR current enrollment in, or completion of coursework in a healthcare professional program (e.g., medical school, PA program, nursing program, or related clinical training) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience (1 - 3 years).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical workflows, patient care, and basic medical terminology

Desired Qualifications*

  • Graduation from a medical assistant diploma program or an equivalent combination of education
    and experience (1 - 3 years).
  • Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) or
    Medical Assistant (MA)

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
